Udeshika Prabodhani

Udeshika Prabodhani is a left-arm medium pacer who possesses a sharp inswinger, delivered after a short trundle, that has been the undoing of many a batter. And she has done it consistently enough to be a constant presence in Sri Lanka's bowling attack over the past decade.

Prabodhani's exploits in the Sri Lanka domestic circuit in 2007, when she finished as the highest wicket-taker in the one-day competition, led to her maiden call-up for the ODI series at home against West Indies. But she had to bide her time and finally made her debut in a tri-series match against Pakistan in Bangladesh a year later and bowled well without picking up a wicket. Proper success came when she picked up two-fors in each of her first two T20Is - at the T20 World Cup in 2009 in England, in matches against Pakistan and England - and had the second-most wickets for Sri Lanka in that competition.

Her testing lines and lengths were hard to get away, as India found out in the home ODI World Cup in 2013. She stifled the batters with the new ball and dismissed Mithali Raj with an inswinger as Sri Lanka registered their first ODI win against India to knock them out of the World Cup.

Almost seven years later, Prabodhani threatened to do the same to a very strong Australia team. At the T20 World Cup in 2020, in Australia, she got the new ball to hoop around and knocked over both Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner to reduce Australia to 8 for 2 in their 123-run chase. When she finished her four overs, bowled in a single spell, Australia were 27 for 3, with her figures reading 2 for 17.
