The Wights were among the prominent cricket-playing families in British Guiana (now Guyana) in the period leading up to West Indies' Test debut in June 1928 and even after that. Vibart, who played two Test matches, and his nephew Leslie, who played one, were the only ones to make the top grade, but Oscar, Vibart's brother, and three of his other nephews - Peter, Henry and Norman - played first-class cricket; Peter going on to play 333 games mainly for Somerset.
Vibart started playing, for British Guiana, in 1925 as a top-order batter, but soon moved to the middle order and found success there. There wasn't a lot of domestic cricket in the West Indies at the time outside of the Inter-Colonial Tournament, but Vibart did well enough there to feature regularly against visiting sides - MCC, as well as the counties - and got a shot at Test cricket in that debut series for West Indies in 1928, that too as the vice-captain.
Scores of 23 and 12 not out from the lower-middle order in his first Test, at The Oval, weren't exceptional, but he was picked again when West Indies hosted England in 1929-30, and played the third Test in Georgetown, at his home ground at Bourda. He scored 10 and 22. That was the end of his Test career, but he continued playing first-class cricket till 1938 to finish with an average of 30.94, respectable enough for the era in an amateur set-up.
The Guyana Chronicle notes that Vibart was the Mayor of Georgetown thrice after his playing days were over.
