Experience vs youth
Here's DC coach Hemang Badani's take: "There's also the salary cap that increases every year. Every side has to spend that kind of money. Speaking of 120 crores that a side has today, multiplied by ten, is the money that has to be spent by these sides. No side wants to take their money and say, 'I've had a saving and I have a shaving and I'm happy with that.' Everyone here wants to spend the money, everyone wants to make sure that they have the players that they want.
"No franchise is shying away from spending money. Everyone's happy to go back home with a nil balance. Also, the way the game's gone by, with the younger kids there's no baggage. The older experienced person, at times, yes, has the experience, but there are poor experiences that he can fall back on. But the young boy has had so much of talent and so much of enthusiasm in the starting of his career, and that gets into the IPL, and that's why you see so many young kids. It's new for me to see Prashant Veers, Karthik Sharmas and all of them. They're the most expensive uncapped Indian players and that just pretty much tells you what it is."

Bishnoi: 'Playing for RR will feel like home'
Speaking on his move to Rajasthan Royals, Ravi Bishnoi said, "Playing for Rajasthan Royals will feel like playing at home. I started my cricket journey as a net bowler at RR , and now representing a team that carries the name of my state means a lot to me.”
RR Lead Owner Manoj Badale said, "Ravi is a special talent and someone our fans were eager to see in Royals colours. His return to the franchise feels like a homecoming, especially knowing he began his journey here as a net bowler. He’s a highly skilled bowler, a terrific fielder, and someone who embodies the hunger and spirit we value at this franchise."

DC co-owner Parth Jindal on their buys
"I think we came in with a clear plan. We had a wishlist and we wanted to get an experienced finisher. I don't think you can do better than Miller. Since he came early, we were able to get him at an incredible price. You have the experience of Miller and an upcoming player in Stubbs. With Ben Duckett, we got someone who loves to reverse-sweep, even in Test cricket. We didn't have enough wickets in the powerplay and Axar or Vipraj had to bowl in the powerplay. For powerplay, we've been tracking Aquib, so we went all the way for him to J&K."

A change in CSK's philosophy
Stephen Fleming speaks
"Fair reflection, as the game evolved, we may have been slow to evolve with it. Halfway through tournament we made a big shift. Saw players we got in as reserves, with them there was a big shift in what we needed to do. We identified we needed to shift. Work we did halfway through has enabled us to continue that work now.
"Kartik - we've been watching him for some time. He was with that last year. Veer - we needed that skillset after the Jadeja trade."
CSK have veered away from their experience-first philosophy. They have trusted youth and their scouting system for IPL 2026. Veer was among those who they called up to their Academy in Chennai in the lead-up to the auction. Kartik Sharma trained with them last season and even played some practice games at their Academy last season and has been trending upwards.
In September in Chennai last year, CSK conduced a five-day trial, with Fleming in attendance. A number of players from state-run T20 leagues were part of it. They may be interested in bidding for more uncapped players in the accelerated auction.

Ashok Sharma to GT at 90 lakh
Asking price 30 lakh.
KKR open bidding at 30 lakh, CSK jump back in at 35 as the two exchange a couple of bids. Highest SMAT wicket-taker at the group stage was about to go to KKR for 40 lakh, until RR came in.
Remember, RR let him go despite having signed him for base price of 30 lakh. Now, they've raised the paddle at 75 lakh. KKR are out. but Gujarat Titans put in a bid for 80 lakh
RR are out, KKR come back in and are tussling with Titans, who have the bid at 90 lakh. And that is the winning bid.
Ashok Sharma consistently clocks the high 140s and bowls a heavy ball. Erratic in his early years, he has undergone a marked transformation over the past two seasons, emerging as a far more rounded seamer capable of operating effectively across different phases.
Ashok finished the group stage of the latest Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 19 wickets in seven matches at an average of 12.10 and an economy of 8.84. Despite being part of the squads at KKR and, more recently, at Rajasthan Royals (RR), he is yet to get a game. This time, though, there's a strong sense that his moment may finally have arrived.

CSK fork out 14.2 crore for Kartik Sharma
Rajasthan's six-hitting machine Kartik Sharma asks for bids from 30 lakh. MI start the bidding, LSG jump straight in for what could be the start of another bidding war for another uncapped player.
He's currently injured but has already created a stir with his big-hitting in the middle order. MI drop out. LSG and KKR tussle for him. Kartik is also good against spin: took down both Sai Kishore and Shreyas Gopal in the SMAT.
Believe he was also the joint-highest six-hitter in the Ranji Trophy, which explains the bidding war. Last season, he also trained with the CSK squad. KKR in the lead at 2.8 crore.
Oh hello, here come CSK. They're familiar with his skills from last season. CSK and KKR are locked in another bidding war.
Kartik is also very reliable behind the stumps. The paddles are steadily going up at the CSK and KKR tables. The bid has zoomed up to 6 crore, KKR in the lead. CSK are right back into it.
The bidding continues for Kartik. The mini-auction is a big deal for uncapped Indian players. Blink and you'll miss the bid.
It has reached 8 crore. KKR have taken it up to that mark. CSK back in the lead at 8.2 crore. This is quite un-CSK - they're going hard for uncapped Indians. They usually bid aggressively for proven performers.
The bid has crossed 10 crore. WHOPPER! Both CSK and KKR are still at it. Both need firepower in their middle order.
Kartik has been signed up by JSW - which manages several top athletes like Neeraj Chopra - giving you more than just an inkling of his talent. The numbers back it up. In 12 T20s, Kartik has amassed 334 runs at a strike rate of 164, hitting 28 sixes.
Clips of his power-hitting have travelled far and wide, earning admiration from the likes of Kevin Pietersen and R Ashwin.
CSK snatch the lead at 12.2 crore. KKR need a moment to deliberate. After that pause, KKR are also back in it. Franchises are splashing money on uncapped Indian players.
CSK hike the bid up to 13 crore. They want their man back. They had a closer look at him last season. They have got him into their squad for IPL 2026
Hold on, SRH bid for Kartik now and that has drawn cheers. SRH drop out. Sold to CSK for a staggering 14.2 crore. CSK tear up their old template and punt on young, emerging players.

Prashant Veer: Jadeja's replacement at CSK
Asks for 30 lakh.
LSG, MI raise the paddle quickly. CSK join in once MI are out.
The price quickly zooms to 4.2 crore, and is with CSK. A perfect replacement for Jadeja?
Oh, wait. RR comes in at 4.4 crore and take it to 6 crore. CSK not giving up, and raise it to 6.6 crore.
SRH come in at 6.8 crore and take it to 14 crore as they keep bidding! CSK still in it, though.
CSK eventually persist and get him for 14.2 crores!
Identified initially while representing Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League, 20-year-old left-arm spin-bowling allrounder Prashant Veer has also built a solid body of work at this year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. That progress hasn't gone unnoticed with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) having taken a closer look at him in trials as they look to identify a long-term successor to Ravindra Jadeja.
The past few weeks have neatly captured his rise. Veer has shuttled between Mumbai and Kolkata, featuring in six matches across seven days in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Uttar Pradesh's Under-23 fixtures. He signed off from first of those with 112 runs at a strike rate of 170, alongside nine wickets at a miserly economy of 6.76.

Auqib Nabi to DC for 8.4 crore
Auqib Nabi: J&k allrounder. Excellent new ball bowler. Improved death bowler. Delhi Capitals come in at 30 lakh. RR raise the bid, and DC come back in. The bid quickly crosses 1 crore and is with DC.. RR say they're out.
RCB come in at 1.1, and quickly keep putting incremental bids to DC's.
Nabi, who comes from Baramullah, a town in J&K where he can't bowl with a long run up due to space constraints and hilly terrain, is set to take home at least 2 crore.
SRH come in a 2.2 crore. DC keep going. And incredibly the bids touch 8.4 crore with DC. And that is the winning bid.
Auqib Nabi, 29, can swing the new ball and has also improved his skills with the older one. He was super impressive in the SMAT, which came on the back of of an exceptional start to the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, where he was the only seamer among the top-five wicket-takers in the first half of the season. His 29 wickets in nine innings included three five-fors and a stunning 7 for 24 against Rajasthan, helping J&K guarantee themselves a knockouts berth.

CSK's first buy: Akeal Hosein
Nagraj Gollapudi: Akeal Hosein might come as a surprise to many but CSK had booked his name as one of the firsts as the think-tank believes he can bowl also in the powerplay something Ravindra Jadeja did not do muuch. Akeal also plays for other Super Kings franchises and is a extremely good fielder."
Yep, Akeal is also on the books of Joburg Super Kings and Texas Super Kings. At TSK, he also improved his batting and hit his maiden T20 half-century. Overseas spinners and spin-bowling allrounders are usually not of interest to franchises, but Akeal brings an unique skill: he can swing the new ball in the powerplay and can swing it at speeds closer to 100kph. He played a crucial role in TKR winning the CPL earlier this year.
Akeal grew up looking up to Ravindra Jadeja. He could now potentially play the role that Jadeja did at CSK
