Max Holden, a former England Under-19 captain, restated his commitment to Middlesex by signing a long-term deal after a successful loan stint with Northamptonshire in 2017. Holden made 629 runs from nine Championship matches at an average of 39.31 and a highest score of 153.

Upon his return, Middlesex's MD of cricket Angus Fraser proclaimed him: "One of the most exciting young cricketers in the country." He delivered a maiden Championship hundred to give support to the notion in 2018, a late season affair against Derbyshire, and Middlesex protected him from the excesses of the shorter formats, believing they had a long-form cricketer on their hands.

Holden, a graduate of the Middlesex Youth Academy, is a slightly-built, left-handed batsman with a strong work ethic. Cambridgeshire born and raised, he began a four-year contract with Middlesex in 2016 joined the staff full time once his A levels were completed. He was selected for England at U-17 and U-19 level.
