Usama Mir

A tall legspinner who emerged just before Shadab Khan emerged and claimed his white-ball slot, Usama Mir was viewed as a project player who could fill in some useful gaps for Pakistan one day. A solid early season in the PSL showcased his big-match temperament, if not quite his consistency, but persistent early injuries saw him fade from Pakistan's radar. However, his ability to vary pace and tendency to attack saw him attract franchise interest around the world; he has played in the Big Bash League, the Hundred, The T20 Blast, the CPL, as well as the PSL.

As Mir began to understand his game better, his reputation and value in Pakistan cricket grew. He was called up to Pakistan's ODI side for his debut in 2023, nearly seven years on from first being named an emerging player in the PSL. A handful of indifferent ODI performances - including an unhappy World Cup in 2023 in which he picked up four wickets at an average of 62 - saw him excluded once more. He made five appearances for the T20I side, though one more, consistency proved elusive. On the T20 circuit, though, he remains highly valued; he was one of the star players in the Blast in 2023 where he averaged 16.89 in 11 matches, and the leading wicket-taker in the PSL the following year with 24 dismissals.

In 2025, it was announced he had signed a contract with a view to becoming a local player in the UK starting 2027, a move that effectively put his international career on ice.
