Bangladesh vs India, 1st Test at Chattogram, Jan 17 2010 - Match Result
Bangladesh fought well in this Test but their batsmen, particularly the top order, let them down. Having dismissed India for 243, they failed to get the lead and in the second innings they left the lower order with too much to do with little left to escape defeat. Mushfiqur, however, remains their stand-out performer and warrants a promotion up the order, given his solidity and sound technique. India take 1-0 lead and will bank on Dhoni and Harbhajan returning for the next game. We'll get you the presentation details in a bit. Mushfiqur's century is also the fastest for Bangladesh, off 112 balls.
Shakib: "We didn't bat well in the first innings. That led to our downfall. We played too many rash shots outside the off stump, we need to work on it. We thought we had a good chance to take a lead, but hopefully next time we'll be better. We need to improve on our catching and batting. Mushfiqur is always capable of scoring hundreds and he did today."
Sehwag is being jeered by the crowd: "Our bowlers did a fantastic job, Zaheer and Ishant especially, after getting bowled out for 243. Ishant bowled really quick and got some good bounce. It was a good pitch, nice carry, turn and bounce and three players also got hundreds. We have to play good cricket and if we do that, we can easily win the next match."
Tendulkar gets a memento for reaching 13,000 runs in Tests. He's also the Man of the Match, for getting a century in the first innings.
Tendulkar: "This was an important one because we lost wickets after a good opening partnership. The lower order supported well; we lost six wickets between lunch and tea and that put a bit of pressure on us. The track was a little sticky, the Bangladesh bowlers bowled well. Or bowlers fought back nicely and Gautam, like he has done in the recent past, scored another hundred. The 40-50 runs in the first innings at the end were crucial and the last three batsmen chipped in with valuable runs. Ishant was fantastic, he's got into good rhythm and we look forward to him delivering again in the next match."
That's all we have from he, folks. Thanks for tuning in and sending us your feedback. Until the next Test on the 24th, it's goodbye from all of us at Cricinfo. Bye
