11.06pm And with that, that's a wrap. Two entertaining contests, two contrasting contests. But two England wins. And both by eight runs. From Miller, Alex and Chandan, thanks and goodnight, see you on Friday for the series finale.

Aaron Finch: "We were really poor in the field, pretty sloppy. [Tim] David has been fantastic, his raw power has been fantastic. Depends on the opposition, but [this XI] is close. Debate about one or two spots. A nice luxury to have three world-class quicks. Trying different things with bowling distribution."

Jos Buttler: "Really satisfying. Dawid has been really consistent and has done it against every attack around the world. Sam wants to be in the think of things at the important moments. We had to get Tim David out to win the game."

Dawid Malan is Player of the Match: "Over the moon, nice to score runs and contribute to a win. Knowledge of the grounds helps, I didn't have a great Big Bash, but I've found my rhythm. Hopefully I can keep the runs coming. Huss [who presented 50th cap], one of my idols growing up, great to have him say a few words."

Moeen Ali: "We spoke about staying in the moment, Dawid played superbly, it was a crucial partnership. We take a lot of confidence, it's huge for our team with a lot of young players. We're progressing in the right direction, Pakistan was big for us, winning two here, Jos coming back and in form. And Jonny [in the BT studio] missing you, mate..." How touching.

10.49pm Well, that was mightily impressive from England. Up against it early on with the bat, but after Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali had combined to post a competitive 178, the bowler's defence was superb, backed up by fielding that was several notches better than Australia's. Sam Curran's dismissal of Tim David was the clincher, as he finished with a fine haul of 3 for 25, but Stokes was handy with the ball too, as were the left-armers Willey and Topley. They lead the series 2-0, and that's a huge boon ahead of the World Cup.

Noor: "England's 1st ever T20 series win since Buttler became permanent captain. Also who deserves MOM today? Curran or Malan?" Well, the first that Buttler has captained, which is slightly different - Moeen of course was in charge in Pakistan last month. But yes, a notable milestone for Morgan's heir. And the MoM for me is Malan... easy to overplay the batting sometimes, but that was a true innings-transforming knock.

Jayeshds: "A series loss before WC... That's prerequisite for Aus to be winner... " Yes, this is also true...

JOYDEEPSINGHGIL: "8 is really made a negative sign cuz they lost all 2 matches of this series by 8 runs"

2
Sam Curran to Wade, 2 runs

back of a length, nurdled off the legs, Wade gets the red-inker that eluded him on Sunday, but it's England's night, and England's series!

Barring a glut of no-balls, this one is done

19.5
1
Sam Curran to Cummins, 1 run

bust it is! Another smack through the line, but scuffed on the bounce to wide long-on

12 from 2... six or bust...

Ricky: "18.6 was 1000 T20 runs for Wade, you missed it..." To be fair, so has he tonight...

19.4
1
Sam Curran to Wade, 1 run

hits the pitch, cramped on the pull once more, Wade hasn't got much going tonight. High on the bat and just another single to deep square

Fine leg drops back

19.3
1
Sam Curran to Cummins, 1 run

goes for the big wind-up, but can't connect properly as Curran hits his length outside off... just the single, though some confusion as the shy is wide...

Rajesh Sanghvi: "Can the Cummins from KKR come to the fore ?" He's lurking...

2
Sam Curran to Cummins, 2 runs

steps across his stumps early, Curran responds and follows him outside off, pulled to the on-side for two more... 14 from 4...

now then! A shin-high full-toss, munched over backward square, and now it's 16 from 5!

Reece Topley 4-0-35-1
Sam Curran 3-0-12-3

A healthy 22 runs to defend for England... Curran will see it through. But he'll have one fewer men in the deep as England have over-run...

18.6
2
Topley to Wade, 2 runs

swings across the line, but that's a mighty over from Topley. Just enough variety to avoid being lined up, as midwicket tidies that one up

18.5
1
Topley to Cummins, 1 run

outside off, keeping it away from Cummins' hitting arc. Another claw to the on-side for the single

18.4
2
Topley to Cummins, 2 runs

fierce thump off the full length, back through Topley's followthrough. Long-on sweeps up

18.3
2
Topley to Cummins, 2 runs

no timing on the pull once more, hitting the middle of the pitch with that angle across the right-hander. Lands in space at deep midwicket and it's two to the total

18.2
1
Topley to Wade, 1 run

loopy full length, into the blockhole with all the pace removed. Tapped to long-off to bring up the 150

18.1

Sam Curran to Cummins, 1 run

full length, outswinger, draws a respectful drive to long-off. Outstanding gamechanging over... and suddenly it's Australia playing catch-up again

17.5
1lb
Sam Curran to Wade, 1 leg bye

fuller length, angled into Wade's pads, he can't connect as the ball deflects to square leg

17.4
1
Sam Curran to Cummins, 1 run

hacked off the back foot, out to the off side

17.3
Sam Curran to Cummins, no run

cunning delivery, a leg-cutter I think, turns Cummins inside out as the ball grips the pitch from back of a length

Cummins can lump it... but what can he do here?

17.2
W
Sam Curran to David, OUT

bowled round his legs! Sensational from Curran, 137kph, into middle and leg! David walked across his stumps, perhaps anticipating something outside off to match the field, but the ball was speared past his vacated defences!

It's Australia's game now, but we thought that on Sunday. Who can play the Mark Wood role for England? I've heard rumours that Sam Curran Makes Things Happen...

16.6
1
Jordan to David, 1 run

wide bouncer, decent option, keeping it out of his arc. David slaps a cut down into the off side, and pinches the single

How does Jordan respond...

16.5

Jordan to David, SIX runs

pounded over the covers! Jordan unleashes one into the blockhole, and David simply opens his stance and flogs the six onto the grass banks!
