Bat-pad! Australia end it in the fag end of the day. Lyon darts a length ball in at middle and leg, Seales got on the front foot and tried to defend it straight. Played in front of the body, might've just been the inside edge. Went quickly to Konstas' left, sharp catch by him after the drop earlier. Two in two to finish for Lyon.
West Indies vs Australia, 1st Test at Bridgetown, WI vs AUS, Jun 25 2025 - Match Result
That was a remarkable Test. There'll be quite a lot said and written about the performances, conditions and stats too, so do check that out here on ESPNcricinfo. Hope to see you for the Grenada Test. Thanks for joining here, goodbye.
Pat Cummins, Australia captain: Was a great Test. Thought it'd be a tight day today. Played as well as we could, thought the Test was in the balance for the most part. We wanted to get 200, but felt lot more comfortable thanks to the way we batted. Lucky to have Josh, presents a good seam and hits good areas. Bowled beautifully. Beau made his way into the Aussie team with a lot of Sheffield Shield runs. Got a lot of experience. He's positive, keeps the scorecard ticking even on tough wickets. (Message between Tests) First up, we need to rest and recover to get into the next game with full energy. Will go in and assess conditions to decide on what's needed.
Roston Chase, WI captain: Result was heartbreaking. Started well with the ball, would've taken 178 all out after being put into bowl anytime. Plan was to get 100 runs lead, that would've set things up nicely. We didn't have the best of starts, Shai and I had a partnership. Did well to get a lead but couldn't put a batting innings together. We slipped in terms of fielding, didn't take chances, can't do that at this level. Travis-Beau played a beautiful partnership. Must commend our bowlers' efforts, they gave it their all. Coming into the game, there was a bit of controversy in the news, talking about Curtly Ambrose and stuff [Ian Healy said 'Shamar, you're not Curtly'], I guess he used that as fire to perform the way he did. I just want to congratulate him on the game. Shows the heart and character he has. We didn't get off to a good start. We were looking at least for a 50 partnership. We knew it was a new-ball wicket. Wanted to nullify it, but we lost our most experienced batsman in the first over and never got a foot back in the game after that.
Travis Head, POTM: (Challenges of the surface) I'd liked to conquer the conditions a bit more, feel like I left a few. It was tricky on day one, that was the trend. We batted exceptionally well today to set 300. I was more positive on day 1 when the game was open, last night I was desperate to get through to stumps. Nice to get in there with Beau last night. A bit slow in the second innings but that was what was needed. Beau's had an exceptional start, he's played a lot of first-class experience, has played in different conditions, was fantastic today. Not that I try and put it on myself. (More responsibility as Smith and Marnus weren't there?) Every time I go out, I try and be accountable. Was bad that I couldn't contribute in the WTC final. Tough conditions, glad to be among runs.
Josh Hazlewood: There's enough in the wicket, up-and-down from a length. Just about hitting that area time and time again and be patient. I'm just enjoying cricket, Tests in the moment. Good team, atmosphere. I think once we saw WI take the second new ball today, thought things could happen, but not that fast. There's a few cracks on a length from one end, some went low and got a few bowleds and lbws.
Tanay Kulhara: "What west indies should look at the most is not the fact that they weren't able to chase 300, But that they didn't last more then 35 overs!"
Chetan: "My comment that it would end today was not published, boo!" It was, I stand corrected too.
6:14pm, Day 3, end of match: There were some expectations at the start of the day that this Test might end this evening, but not with Australia batting two sessions. They then took the ball and were fiery hot. Starc got big swing, had Brathwaite fall into the leg side trap and created another chance too. Hazlewood was expensive in his first four but had a change of ends and turned into a monster. He got Campbell, who went for an audacious ramp that came off in the first dig, and King back to back first up before getting Chase bat-padding a couple of overs later. Seam movement did Carty in as WI slipped from 47 for 1 to 57 for 5. That went to 86 for 8, but Greaves - and more importantly - Shamar belted a few. Shamar nearly had a record-fastest fifty, got the day extended by half-hour, could've gotten it to the next day too, but it ended two balls before that point was reached thanks to Lyon.
Three more balls to go in the day
PCN: "That pigeon should be investigated"
No fifty for Shamar! Edge pops up off the keeper's gloves, Khawaja runs in from slip, takes it and balances himself onto one knee. The shift in line pays off eventually for Lyon. Went wide on a length, Shamar tried to slap it downtown but got done in by extra bounce. Ends his 200-strike-rate innings
There's an injured pigeon close to the pitch that's creating a delay
Small appeal for a stumping, won't go up. Wide and fullish, Shamar looked to heave it over cover again. Missed it
Carted through cover. Wide and full, slashed with a crouch. Goes flat
Lid's off for the final over of the day
Squared up, edge found. Goes to the left of gully for four. Fifty partnership up. Length ball on middle straightened a touch, Greaves was trying to defend it towards mid-on. Played the original line
Hard length over leg, clipped towards midwicket
Bouncer over leg stump, doesn't rise much. Batter has to duck low to leave, does well to get his bat under his back
Wow, they won't take a single to deep point. Length ball on fourth, defended firmly with an angled bat
Back of length over fourth, defended towards cover
Fullish on leg, clipped to midwicket
Hammond: "An extra extra half hour available?" Doubt it
Wide line, don't matter. Shamar still fetches it. Dances down the ground too, gets it on the fullish length. Extends his arms fully and swings through the line for a straight six
Change in line to get it out of his arc. Very full and wide, Joseph tries to launch it over extra and misses. Goes right back
Carey and Cummins chat with Lyon
This is nailed, sails over midwicket for his third six. Length ball on off, no spin, was rising. Shamar got on one knee and slog swept it with full power
NYConway : "Meanwhile, even with all this extra time we're still 9 overs short for the day. I'm a rare person who likes the way over rate penalties factor into WTC standings, but I have to admit it hasn't actually improved the pace of play"
Dances down and heaves it over midwicket. Hit it on the rise, off the bottom part of the bat but still good enough connection
Dances down and looks to whip it across through midwicket. Inside edges onto pad, deflects to the off side
Lyon taking a longish run-up. Konstas moves from short leg to silly point
Beaten on the back-foot square drive. Touch back of length outside off
Lid's off for Shamar. In-out field. Long-off and on out, so is deep-mid. Slip and short leg in
Hard length over off, defended back to the bowler
That should be out. Given, Greaves reviews. Has to, they have three. Was a fullish ball that landed on fourth and seamed back in to beat the on-drive. Hit flush on the front knee-roll. Was it doing too much? Yes, says Hawk-Eye, missing leg. Greaves smiles
lunch: "Konstas wearing his sunglasses on top of his hat while the sun is right in his eyes.... make of it what you will...."
Length on middle, gets across and flicks to midwicket
Konstas drops it at deep midwicket, sharp chance as it was coming low and quick. Tried to take it to the left, popped up off the hands and into grass. Was a shortish ball that was pulled hard and flat
