Thunder vs Heat, 29th Match at Brisbane, BBL, Jan 10 2026 - Match Result
Heat won by 7 wickets (with 22 balls remaining)
Brisbane Heat win by seven wickets and are right into the mix for the finals. A superb chase, set up by Jack Wildermuth's powerplay onslaught and then Usman Khawaja controlled the chase with some wonderful strokeplay with Matt Renshaw adding the finishing touches. Sydney Thunder's miserable season continues. David Warner again played nicely but picked up an injury and couldn't field. The bowling was mostly poor and the frustrations showed in the field. We are now heading straight over to Marvel Stadium for the Melbourne Derby. Join Rashad for all the action. For now, from Gnasher and the scoring team, thanks for joining us for this one.
big full toss, straight, swings and misses, takes the pad into the leg side. Thunder have called the review...missing leg stump
Well, now they do take the surge
So Khawaja won't be there at the end, but gets a standing ovation as he walks off. Not entirely sure why he didn't call the surge, but a fantastic innings
taken at cover! Closes the face on a length delivery, gets a leading edge that loops to the edge of the ring
fuller outside leg, swung to deep midwicket
short, gives himself room, swats a pull to mid-on
short, rolls the wrists on a pull
Sagar: "Would it make sense to create a new category of extras for free hits due to fielding regulations being not met. Not exactly bowlers fault there. Hard done by runs counting against them…"
full outside leg, tucked down to long leg
full and straight, clipped to deep square leg
Agar returns
Jesse: "Anyone checked in with @John who said the Heat wouldn't get within 30 of this target?"
square drives through point, the sweeper can't stop the second
fuller outside off, steps forward and drives past cover
wide googly, drives to the cover sweeper
wide outside off, square drives to deep point
short outside off, driven strongly from the back foot straight down the ground
almost ends up off the pitch outside off, goes for the pull, loops to the on side off the body
back of a length, pushed to long-on. Willey fuming at the fielder who wasn't in the ring. Over costs him 23.
takes advantage! Full at off stump, Renshaw stands still, swings through the line over long-off
back of a length at off stump, pushed through midwicket, back for the second and he's overstepped (only three inside the circle!)
rohan: "@jake I think both teams would be happy that they have unearthed young stars for the future in Warner and Khawaja"
steps across outside off, looks to scoop over fine leg, is through the shot and flies over the keeper...deep third gets across
steps outside leg to a fuller ball, opens the face to short third...Khawaja has put on a clinic
beats everyone! A bouncer, Khawaja hooks...actually glances the top edge or glove and evades Billings
