Australia take the match and the series! Hussey does it in fine style as he hammers away a short ball to midwicket
South Africa vs Australia, 3rd ODI at Durban, Oct 28 2011 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Australia won by 3 wickets (with 15 balls remaining)
That's a terrific series victory for Australia and makes it three away series wins in a row for Michael Clarke in 50-over cricket since the World Cup. They are a very impressive one-day unit with a bright future. For South Africa, they'll regret an odd batting display because they weren't far short of a decent total but they couldn't find enough boundaries. Australia also found life hard, but in Watson and Haddin had players who provided vital momentum, while Hussey was as cool as ever. Stay with us for the presentations.
"In a low scoring game like this the profligacy of Tsotsobe and Morkel was the difference between the 2 sides," says Nitin. I presume not our Nitin.
Here's Frederick. "South African team is missing a man like M Hussey - The Real Finisher - Perfect replacement for M Bevan."
Hashim Amla "We were about 20 runs short but we fought really well. Australia bowled well and we couldn't quite momentum in the last 10 overs. JP has a golden arm occasionally and he did well today."
The Man of the Match goes to Shane Watson for his all-round performance. "I had a couple of extra days to get fit for this game. There was some life in the pitch and we knew it would be difficult so it was nice to get some out of the middle. We had to learn quickly with the ball and it worked out nicely in the end."
The Man of the series is Mike Hussey "Great effort by the boys, it's always a tough place to come and play. I'm surprised to get the award but I won't knock it back! I wanted to show as much faith as I could in Pat and he was timing them really well."
Michael Clarke "There were a few nerves at the end but never fear, Michael Hussey's here," is honestly what he said. "We played some poor shots but delighted to get over the line. We've seen how close the two teams are and I'd love to come out on top again."
That just about wraps things up for the evening as Australia collect the series trophy. There are two Tests to follow which start on November 9 and they should be crackers. Don't forget to join ESPNcricinfo tomorrow for coverage of Sri Lanka v Pakistan, Bangladesh v West Indies and the T20 between India and England. For now, though, it's goodbye from Andrew McGlashan and Liam Brickhill.
can't find the gap again as he drives to cover
full on middle and off, driven firmly straight to mid-off who is now in very tight
Morkel needs to a take a hat-trick
excellent yorker and equally well dug out by Cummins
comes forward and plays square into the off again but this time doesn't find a gap
Just two needed
well played! Outside off stump and he finds a gap through point with a square drive that beats third man
Another great learning experience for Cummins
fuller on off stump, he lunges forward and pushes towards mid-on
so close! Kallis went short and Cummins responded with a pull which looped off the top edge over keeper and Smith at slip
neatly played as he flicks it off his pads but picks out midwicket
A final chance to target Cummins?
he can't get the single as he drives a length delivery to cover
extra bounce and he gets behind the line then the ball loops of the pad to square leg
beaten! Feels for this outside off then tries to pull his bat inside the line
full at the stumps and played to midwicket
Crowd getting behind South Africa for a final push
back of a length and he guides it down to third man so no issues about exposing Cummins
outside off and left alone
comes forward and plays carefully into the off side
Pat Cummins is the No. 9
gone! This game refuses to die. Johnson chases a length ball outside off and gets an edge which carries low to Boucher. It was a good catch.
comes onto the front foot and plays to backward point
full on middle and played back to the bowler
play and miss and Johnson goes for cut...no need for any heroics from Mitch
typical of Hussey as he angles this down to third man
Duminy is off and Kallis is on
