Oh Roach, what have you done? After batting with such composure, with West Indies on the verge of victory, Roach sets off for a non-existent single after Sammy had played the ball towards point. Actually Sammy had begun to run as well and then stopped, looking in desperation as Roach continued towards and past him. Sammy was stranded mid-pitch as the fielder at point threw the ball to Lee, who broke the stumps to tie the game. Lee was never going to muck that up. Australia have held their nerve to pull this off
West Indies vs Australia, 3rd ODI at Kingstown, Mar 20 2012 - Ball by Ball Commentary
5.30 pm West Indies were out of this contest having lost five wickets for very little but they've fought back admirably. They couldn't quite get over the line though, so the series remains 1-1 with two to play.
Shane Watson at the post-match presentation. He says Australia were hoping to get 240, and the batting is an area they want to improve on. He says it's an odd feeling at the end, because his team was ahead of West Indies for most of the chase. "It's a big learning experience, captaining in a game that is so tight. We need to adapt and get better in these conditions."
Michael Hussey is the Man of the Match for his innings of 67. This pitch was not easy to bat on, big turn and bounce for the spinners, so they were tough runs. Hussey says he feels as though Australia should have won but is relieved to have held on for the tie.
Sammy: "We believed we could beat them. We should have won today .. it shows the belief of the team." He says they were looking to run in the final over but the ball went straight to the fielder. "I won't put the blame on anybody ..."
Kushal: "I just felt a pang in my heart. Memories of Klusener/Donald in THAT semifinal."
That's all we have for you today. The fourth game is on Friday in St Lucia, let's hope it's just as good. Thank you for all your emails. Cheers.
All the fielders are in the circle.
Sammy's tied the scores with a fearsome hit, thrashing the ball flat towards the wide long-on boundary. The fielder at long-on ran to his right and dived desperately, he couldn't stop it
Five off four balls. One wicket remains.
Roach jumps back and opens the face to steer a short of a length ball towards third man, sensible batting from the No. 11
Sammy slogs at a full ball around off and forces it towards midwicket, Watson dives at extra cover to prevent the overthrow
Lee to bowl the final over ...
West Indies need seven off the final over. Australia need one wicket. Sammy will be on strike.
played with an open face behind point
defended back to the bowler
Sammy pushes the ball to cover and sprints, there's a direct hit but Roach is safe at the striker's end, the umpire asks for replays to be doubly sure
swept toward fine leg for one more, there's tremendous noise at Arnos Vale at the moment
Roach chases a wide ball outside off and gets beaten
that's fired down leg side and Roach sweeps, I think he got some bat on that and the ball races towards fine leg. The fielder slides to prevent the ball from hitting the rope but his foot was touching the rope, that's a boundary. West Indies need 9 off 11 balls. Australia need one wicket
Doherty will have a crack at West Indies' No. 11. A slip in place.
a full ball outside off, Roach plays the square drive to deep point and runs the single, so Sammy will not have the strike
Roach takes on McKay's arm from third man and beats the throw comfortably, he had steered it with an open face
Lee's bowled the full ball wide down leg side, Wade collects
short ball outside off stump, Roach lets it go
full ball outside off, driven to cover
Roach is the last man, he's got to be focused on giving the strike to his captain.
splendid catch at short cover! David Hussey throws the ball in the air in celebration. Length delivery angling into the right-hander from round the wicket, Narine drove at it and hit the ball on the up, he middled it but the ball went straight to Hussey who took a low catch
short of a length outside off, Sammy pushes to point for a single and the crowd is cheering everything now
Narine's playing a gem for West Indies. He stays extremely balanced on the front foot and launchs a length ball from outside off to the wide long-off boundary
Watson's line is poor again, on the pads, Narine stays balanced and closes his face to turn the ball behind square and into the gap on the boundary
too full on the pads, clipped through midwicket and even the fleet-footed Michael Hussey on the midwicket boundary can't prevent the second
