Kingston, Jamaica - Franklyn Rose grabbed six wickets and even though West Indian team-mate Shivnarine Chanderpaul cracked a hundred, Jamaica easily ecured first innings points over Guyana in their Busta Cup semifinal match yesterday.
Guyana, replying to Jamaica's first innings' 348, were dismissed for 242withcaptain Chanderpaul hitting a fine 112 - his 17th first-class century.
Rose ended with six for 71 in 20 overs and now has 20 wickets in the season.
West Indies fast bowler Reon King bowling with great hostility in an 11-over spell in late afternoon then grabbed two quick wickets including first innings centurion Chris Gayle to leave at Jamaica 39 for two.
A fiery King struck the offstump of Gayle (5) and removed Tony Powell leg-before next ball to leave Jamaica at seven for two. Powell collected the dreaded 'pair'.
Jimmy Adams and Wavell Hinds then played with admirable composure to frustrate King and company through to the end. King closed with two for 14 and like Rose, now has 20 Busta Cup wickets this season.
Withjustaday remaining, Jamaica boast a second innings lead of 145 with eight second innings wickets in hand.
Onlyadramatic collapse by the Jamaicans on the final day would give the Guyanese a chance of victory and a place in the final against the Leeward Islands next weekend.
Chanderpaul, who lifted Rose over extra-cover for four and Courtney Walsh highovermid-offforanother boundary as the innings declinedaroundhim, reached his century by steering Rose behind
squarefortwo. He expertly shielded Kinginalast-wicket partnership of 25 before being caught on the square-leg boundary by Laurie Williams as he pulled a short delivery from Walsh.
