it's all over. Blizzard's sealed victory with a six. He got under another low full toss and slammed it over the wide long on boundary. Hurricanes recovered from a strangle by spin to knockout Cobras with a series of haymakers at the death
Cape Cobras vs Hurricanes, 6th Match, Group B at Hyderabad, Sep 21 2014 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Hurricanes won by 6 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)
7.05 pm Hurricanes have got their first points in the Champions League after losing their first game. They are well in this competition now. For Cobras, they have lost two out of two and are on the brink of elimination. Cobras were unlucky because they lost offspinner Dane Piedt to injury but it was their seasoned seamers that got hammered in the end.
Cobras captain Justin Ontong says they were ahead of the game for 80% but that crucial no-ball made the difference. "Can't afford that," he says. Ontong says he thinks Piedt has dislocated his shoulder but he isn't sure.
Ben Dunk says it was a good wicket to bat on, especially against the new ball. He says the Cobras spinners made it really hard, but credits Blizzard for the way he stayed the course.
Ben [not Dunk]: "Blizzards last 42 runs came of 17 balls, he was 36 off 31 after 15 overs."
perplexed: "saw 'this over is killing the contest' at 16.5 overs. when i come back it is all over, but not how i was expecting. crikey. doug and ben are not as rubbish as it seemed 90 minutes ago."
Hurricanes captain, Tim Paine: "Terrific batting, Ben started our innings very well and Blizz played very well .... we were disappointed the way we started and finished with the ball, but we back Dougie and Ben to bounce back."
Aiden Blizzard is the Man of the Match, obviously. "It was great to bat deep, to have Johnny wells who is a very cool head. Great to get win on the board. We struggled through the middle against spin, but when the quicks came back on it was now or never. Their spinners bowled extremely well ...Wells played a great cameo. We're up and about now ... very confident."
Right, that's it from me for this game, stay tuned for Kolkata Knight Riders v Lahore Lions up next. Toss for that one in 10 minutes. Cheers
a full ball outside off, driven through cover for a single
Mridul Shandily: "The problem for Cobras here is that they don't really have anyone to turn up to bowl the last over! It will either be the rookie Mgijima who has bowled only 1 over or Philander again!" It might not go that far.
a slower short ball, but it's been called wide again
what a shot that is! Wells clears his front foot and slogs a length ball over the midwicket boundary. Forget what I said about this game being past Hurricanes, it's all about them at the moment
Blizzard uses the room outside off and carves a low full toss through point
Blizzard is one fire, he gets under a low full toss and hammers it for a straight six, Cobras are slumping
Blizzard bashes a low full toss, it was full and wide, back at the bowler. The ball hits the stumps at the bowler's end and uproots middle. the ball ricochets back to the bowler who picks it up and charges at the stumps at his end to try and run out Wells. Langeveldt misses the stumps
It's back to Langeveldt now. DanielAlexander: "CLT20 2014 has already seen few spectacular run chases, are we in for another one in this match?"
Wells completes the destruction of Philander by moving across his stumps and chipping a low full toss over the head of the fielder at short fine leg. Langeveldt went for six in the previous over, Philander has gone for 24 in this one
in the blockhole outside off and Blizzard drives through the off side
Tom: "About 6-7 years ago Blizzard had a blinder in the T20 final at the WACA, he hit absolutely massive sixes and I thought he was going to be the next Matthew Hayden or someone like what David Warner or Aaron Finch is now. Hasn't really delivered on his massive potential, has spent numerous years moving states trying to find consistent cricket, but tonight could be the coming of age."
pulled towards the fine leg boundary that the fielder saves four in the nick of time for Cobras
Philander is going to pieces, Blizzard makes room and slashes hard, carving the ball flat and hard towards the point boundary, it bounces just inside and goes for four
Philander, what are you doing? Undoing Langeveldt's great work, is what! The free hit is a lousy full toss, and Blizzard winds up and hoicks the ball into space, and when it lands it's in the first tier over the square leg boundary
is that another six? Nope, Engelbrecht is on the edge of the long on boundary and he takes the catch. Blizzard hit that flat and hard but did not get enough height on the shot. But hang on, the umpires are checking if Philander has overstepped. And he has! Blizzard has a lifeline and a free hit as well.
spoke too soon, for Blizzard latches on to a full toss and clobbers it over long on for six
Hurricanes need 44 off 18 balls. Cobras favourites, but stranger things have happened. Philander to bowl.
another blockhole delivery to finish the over, Wells hits it to deep midwicket, only six runs off the over
Blizzard charges the bowler and mis-times a low full toss to long off, this over is all but killing off the contest here
this is superb from Langeveldt, another blockhole ball, Wells gets an inside edge on the leg side, he was looking to drive on the off
the slower short ball, Wells is beaten comprehensively on the hook and the square leg umpire has called it a wide for height
wide and in the blockhole for the third time in a row, Blizzard lunges for it and steers behind point
in the blockhole once again outside off stump, the line is pretty wide, Blizzard reaches for it but can only play the ball to the bowler
in the blockhole outside off stump from Langeveldt, Blizzard swings across the line and misses
