Wasim Jaffer followed up his first-innings century with a fluent unbeaten 58 to guide West Zone to a convincing seven-wicket win against South in their Duleep Trophy match in Baroda.
Set 104 for victory, West tottered at the start, losing both openers cheaply for the second time in the match. But Jaffer, who had scored 133 in the first innings, was the hero again as he stemmed the rot and saw the team home with some help from Jacob Martin and Niraj Patel. Jaffer smashed seven fours and two sixes in his knock, and took his tally for the match to 191, out of West Zone's total of 431 runs. Lakshmipathy Balaji kept the fight going for South, taking all three wickets to fall and finished with impressive match figures of 6 for 73, but none of the other bowlers offered him much support in the second innings.
