on the middle and leg, Jadeja goes on the back foot and flicks it towards the vacant deep midwicket region to run three and complete a comfortable win
India vs England, 4th ODI at Mohali, Jan 23 2013 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That brings us to the end of our coverage for this game. This is Devashish Fuloria signing off. Ciao.
Presentation:
Alastair Cook: "Rohit-Raina partnership really took things away from us. i don't think the conditions were really in our favour. We put up a pretty good score on this wicket. Joe Root played pleasingly, he moved the ball around well."
MS Dhoni: "Overall a very good peformance, more so with the new ball. We didn't let them get off to a quick start. It is new bowling attack, they will learn a lot with experience. 100 in 10 overs, it's bound to happen with the new rules. We all know Rohit is a gifted cricketer and it was a very good performance from him. He is a natural puller of the ball and once he got to his fifty, he converted it to a big one. The conditions have not been typical subcontinental conditions, except Kochi, so the series win has been a good achievement."
Suresh Raina gets the Man-of-the-Match award: "I told Rohit to be positive and we had a tremendous partnership. Today, I got some chances and I stayed till the end. Rohit was playing really well, he showed some character in his innings. I remember Sachin told us that we have to No. 1 in the fielding, and today we fielded really well."
In the end, India did it comfortably. But England had their moments in the match. Unfortunately for them, there wasn't much support for Steven Finn who looked like the only bowler who could get wickets. India's chase was controlled by two half-centuries - Rohit Sharma's and Raina's - and they stayed abreast with the required rate. Rohit says, "I am happy with the innings today, I was told by the management today about the opening role." With this win, India take the series 3-1 with one match to play.
Gameon: "Under any other circumstances, this series win would have been a given, but after the Test series loss to England and ODI series against Pakistan, this is really a cause for celebration."
Rayner: "Well chased by India. Finn really made the team pay the cost there for hitting the wicket during his action. That should be enough of a deterrant for him really."
yogi: "I think of particular note in this series is the performance of a young indian pace attack compared to english attack. Finn was the best pace bowler on either side but did not get adequate support and it reflected in the performance of the two bowling attacks."
length delivery on the middle and off, pushed to mid-on from the crease
short of length outside off, defended off the back foot
Abhay: "Tossing the ball is distracting the batsmen. That can't be fair!" There is no such thing as 'fair' for a bowler in cricket. It's a batsman's game you see.
length ball, pushed to the gap at cover for a single
short ball on the body, Raina plays an ill-controlled pulled towards deep square leg.
Matt Ryan: "There was a point when I was excited by what looked like a glut of up and coming pace bowlers for England. However, a couple of absences from the regulars has shown that actually, that department is a cause for concern - whilst Australia seem to be churning out good youngsters at will."
short of length delivery on off, Raina gets beside the line of the ball and guides it straight to point
length ball on the off side, pushed to cover
Bresnan juggled the ball in his run-up during that delivery, and the umpire has a word with him about that
tries to heave it towards the leg side, but it's stopped by the midwicket fielder. Jadeja sends Raina back and Raina does vice-versa
length ball, he moves his front foot out and drives it over the infield at cover, doesn't get hold of it completely and the ball is pulled back by deep cover
fuller length delivery on the middle, and another one is flicked down to behind square on the leg side
on the middle stump line, flicked away off the hip to fine leg
141 ks, quick short of length delivery that angles across the left-hander, beats him outside off as Jadeja tries to defend
Srinivas: "Thank you for the kindly reminder kavi, but except for Anderson, no one else were really missed. I mean England will never have played two spinners and I think Tredwell outbowled Swann and Panesar never featured for England in the shorter forms of the game."
it is on the leg side, on a length, Raina glances it down to fine leg
gets another short ball at a comfortable height, pulls it to deep square leg
short ball to Jadeja, but it doesn't bounce much as it is a touch slower in pace. It arrives after Jadeja is through with his shot
Viknesh: "After India's loss in england, i always had Bresnan as a quality all rounder and had him in my Fantasy team , but he is proving it as a fantastic dream"
length delivery wide of off, Raina goes back and tries to steer it to off, plays it straight to point
short ball to test Jadeja, and it almost does the job as he plays a hurried pull towards deep backward square leg
bowls on a length on the leg stump, it is flicked to fine leg for a single
length ball and he just lifts it over the infield, straight over the the bowler's head and it clears the boundary rope
short of length on the off and middle line, defended off the back foot to the leg side
beats the batsman with a widish delivery outside off as Raina tries to reach for it
Bresnan comes in.
Kavi: "Before the euphoria of a likely series victory today kicks in i would like to point out this is against a second string Eng bowling attack with Anderson, Broad, Swann and Panesar out. India struggled against a quality attack like Pakistan and lost so this series victory should not hide the batting problems that linger"
