turned away from the left hander, slightly wide down off, and a thinnish edge flies through, Mahela making no mistake
Sri Lanka vs England, 1st ODI at Dambulla, Oct 01 2007 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Well, that was emphatic. Maharoof was the stand-out bowler today with 4 for 31 as Sri Lanka absolutely thumped England. Collingwood spoke before the game of England forgetting their routing last time they met at this ground - routed for 88, beaten by ten wickets - but here they've been beaten by another sizeable margin, this time 119 runs. Sri Lanka's plan went...to plan: Vaas was hardly used - he bowled five overs. Earlier, their batsmen negotiated a slow pitch well and were in control from the off. A sorry England now have much to do to pick themselves up and dust themselves down by Thursday. Do join us again then. In the meantime, thanks for following today, from me (Jenny), Martin and the Andrews.
turned round off the front foot
swishes away from the body
defended on the front foot
skews down the leg side, chased round with some kind of sweep
The umpire could have, perhaps, referred that just to make sure... but he did it get it right in this instance
Sangakkara is very confident immediately that he has whipped off the bails very quickly - Sidebootom's toe was in the air for only a shade of a second
poked away from the body, and misses
a bit of air, driven out to the covers
chases round a sweep, too late
outside off, worked into short midwicket
driven out to the covers
outside off, worked into the covers and there's some sharp work from Maharoof
creeping down leg, and skewed round to fine leg
defended on the front foot
driven more firmly this time, straight past the bowler
played again off the back foot, patted down
driven off the hips, without much room, to short mid-on
Sri Lanka surging to victory now
starts with a sweep and hesitated in coming back for the second, Malinga with a good return to Sangakkara who takes off the bails with ease
Those two probably represented England's last glimmer of hope. Broad can bat, of course, but on this pitch and in this situation the money's with Sri Lanka
reverse sweep straight to Malinga at backward point - he got hold of it all right, but it flew towards the fielder
on leg, turned round the corner
