there it is, crashed over deep midwicket for the winning hit! Buttler saunters out and clubs the ball well beyond the rope to finish unbeaten on 49, as England win by six wickets to go 2-1 up in the series
Pakistan vs England, 3rd ODI at Sharjah, Nov 17 2015 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10.35pm: Right, that's yer lot for tonight, George's report will tell the full story and we'll be back for more on Friday, when Pakistan will attempt to tie the series at 2-2. Until then, thanks for your comments, it's cheerio from Alan and Gnasher. Bye!
10.25pm: Presentations time... Jos Buttler is the Smart Player, Wahab Riaz gets the Most Colourful Innings, Chris Woakes is Outstanding Performance. And James Taylor wins Man of the Match: "Jos at the other end played an exceptional role, Morgy and Hales got us off to a good start. It was a little bit damper, a lot more tacky, which allowed it to spin more. But the boys gave us a platform and we took it home. Jose was great, played with a straight bat. We tried to be as busy as possible and not let them settle."
Pakistan captain Azhar Ali: "We had a very good start but in the middle we lost it. We were going on for 270 but the run-outs and a few mistakes in the batting cost us the game. We were one good partnership away and they had one good partnership. We were 30-40 runs short. [Run-outs?] It's happened six-seven times now but we have to sort things out because it's cost us. We'll be trying our best to win the next one."
England captain Eoin Morgan: "The performance was hugely satisfying, the most pivotal performance was the chase, the ball turned more than we expected and I thought the partnership between Jos and James was great. It's an area we've been trying to improve and I thought that was huge for us. Under tricky circumstances, they didn't allow the Pakistan bowlers to bowl at them. It was an outstanding win. Alex and I managed to get through a tough period but the key partnership was between those two."
10.15pm: Well, England cruised home with the wind behind them in the end. An unbroken 117-run stand at just over a run a ball between Taylor and Buttler saw off the threat of a collapse, and set up a result which means only England can now win the series. Pakistan's slide from 132 for 2 to 161 for 8 was ultimately decisive, that target not hefty enough to allow them to apply pressure during the chase. Three calamity run-outs presaged their luck running out altogether.
shuffles forward, clips back to the bowler's right... a misfield gives Taylor one more
"Come on finish it with a six!" bawls Farhan
flat on the stumps, defended again
over the wicket, pushed through and blocked
Within range of one blow now...
goes down on one knee very early, waits for the ball to come on and flicks a paddle shot over his shoulder for a couple
length outside leg stump, tapped away
"Why do people always criticize the captain when a team loses the match?" wonders sixty. "All Azhar did was continue his spinners who was doing well on a track that was turning square. You just have to give credit for both the batsmen for playing well. They had a few play and misses early on and rotated the strike well not to forget the well executed reverse sweeps from Buttler. "
gets across and pushes gently into the off side
shortish, 78mph outside off, Taylor glides another single to third man
back of a length outside off, Buttler dabs it down to third man - 200 up for England, they're getting there without breaking sweat now
shortish, over the top of off, Taylor closes the face and nudges square to the leg side
drops short, sits up nicely to be pulled through midwicket for one
length on the stumps and flicked behind square
Anwar Ali back into the attack, 13 required. Unlucky for someone...
"Earlier it was said by one of your fellow commentators that Buttler may sneakily be hoping not to bat....bet he's happy he did now!" That was me, JC. Always face your fears, I say
flighted, Buttler waits on it and taps back down the track, no longer in any hurry
leg-stump line, hits the pads and rolls away
turned to leg from the crease
flat offbreak down leg, flicked away to deep backward square
tossed up and blocked back on the leg side
round the wicket, nudged through square leg
Iftikhar Ahmed returns to the attack
Here's Harold: "Good versatility from Buttler to score at a healthy strike rate having only hit 2 boundaries, he's not just a biffer"
"That miss from Sarfraz is proving fatal for Pakistan...." That was a really tough chance, though, Umair. Pakistan have seemed strangely tentative since these two came together
on the stumps, flicked leg side for one more
short and glanced off the hips from back in the crease - they scurry two more and that's the 100 stand between these two, looking like a match-winner
