how fitting that Roach has finished it all. Length ball outside off, Roach square-drives it over point for the winning runs. That to go with his 10-4-28-3
Pakistan vs West Indies, 2nd Match, Group B at London, Jun 07 2013 - Ball by Ball Commentary
West Indies won by 2 wickets (with 56 balls remaining)
That's all then from tonight. Thanks for joining us, and we hope for more such low-scoring thrillers
Quotes from the presentation
"The plan was to see off the new ball," says Misbah-ul-Haq. "but we did oppositely. Credit goes to them too, they bowled well. With nasir and I, we could have gone to 240-250, but some bad shots and we kept on losing wickets. If you are set, you can't make mistake, otherwise your team suffers. The century doesn't matter. Runs matter only if the team wins. Really happy with the way the bowlers bowled. Everybody bowled their hearts out. We need to rectify the small mistakes. Everybody who made the little mistakes need to say they could have done better."
"Tough situation," says Dwayne Bravo. "Lot of credit to the boys. Kemat set the stone, backed up by Rampaul and Narine. yes it was a close match but it is important to get the nerves out of the way. We didn't want Pakistan to bowl first, because there would be moisture and movement. They bowled really well in the chase too, but credit to the boys. Words can't explain how it felt. Last time Chris Gayle mentioned in the meeting that The Oval is like a home game. We were outnumbered by the Pakistan fans, but we enjoyed it."
"Wanted to pitch the ball up and let the ball do the work," says Kemar Roach, the Man of the Match. "It's great to win the first match. The guys are relieved. Pakistan are a tough side to pay against. Definitely my rhythm was on today. I am proud of myself and the team."
What a superb match we have had here. Roach punches the air and keeps running. He is rightly jubilant. Both sides bowled well here. Roach at the start, followed by repair work by Misbah and Jamshed. The latter threw it away, but Misbah batted until the end with an unbeaten 96 out of a total of 170. he could have easily played just for his hundred, but he kept turning down singes with the last man in.
The chase was exciting with the Pakistan bowlers defending this in a possessed manner. There was a lot of good short-pitched bowling and spin, but the West Indies batsmen made enough small contributions to edge ahead in the end. We will bring the presentation quotes soon
Over the wicket now
short of a length, middle and leg, drops it to leg and takes a single
Nitin Chaudhary: "Time to hit winning runs and show what u got in your pocket Ramdin."
Malik adds a lazy attempt at point to his golden duck. The misfield not only gives them one, but it takes Roach off strike too
Roach on strike now. Junaid goes round the stumps
short of a length, cut away to third man for one
Junaid Khan into the attack now. Will he go round the stumps? No he won't. over the wicket with a slip in
it is a dot. Short of a length, middle and leg, defended off the back foot. Well done, Roach
Now to compensate for that no-ball earlier in the over. Will Pakistan get a wicket? Will West Indies end the game here? Will this be a dot?
short of a length, outside off, angles away, Roach plays inside the line of it
what a beauty. A 140k yorker from that height. On off. Well done, Roach too for keeping it out
a nervous nervous push outside off. Full, sucker ball. Roach is nearly sucked into it, but doesn't edge it
Still no Rampaul. Roach in ahead of him. West Indies need six. A slip in. Four men saving one on the off side
Pakistan stay alive. This game stays alive. Long live ODI. Narine backs away to drive, the ball is not short enough, the extra bounce gets the edge. Akmal hasn't dropped anything today, he is not about to now
bouncer, just outside off, left alone. Will you believe this? Pakistan have only seven to defend, but they don't have enough fielders inside the circle. Called a no-ball. Well done Nigel Llong. Alert. No free hit, though
Slip and a short leg in
short, into the body, Narine flicks this over midwicket for two. He is playing a lovely cameo here
Irfan went off the field at the start of the previous over, but he is back now. He will bowl this over. Irfan has two to go, Junaid has three
another sharp offbreak not short enough to cut. Ramdin tries it, and is beaten this time
flat, outside off, defended solidly back to him
flighted on off, driven back at him, hits the stumps at the non-striker's end, but Ajmal hasn't got a hand to it
doosra, starts outside leg, hits the pad, and goes for two
Ramdin loves to cut. And he has done it again. This is not too short, and is turning in sharply, but he manages to cut it between the legs of gully. I won't call it a drop because it has gone fast, but he should have stopped it at least
full, into the pad, turning down, goes for two leg-byes
Ajmal's last over. Irfan is going off the field. Wonder what's up. A slip and a gully in
driven powerfully on the up, gets a single to deep point
dug in shirt, fended away through where gully would have been. Takes the single
Target under 20 now
Narine is playing a blinder. He makes room and hits this leg-stump full toss between point and cover. Seems the yorker has gone wrong, and he has hit this hard into the ground
