Pakistan win by 46 runs. Full, straight and fast. The bat is late in coming down. Clatter!
Pakistan vs Canada, 17th Match, Group A at Colombo, Mar 03 2011 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Canada flirted with fame but it wasn't to be their night. No one could take ownership of the chase. Hansra seemed the man but he was thwarted by Shahid Afridi, who stamped his presence on the game with a fab spell.
YOunis Khan: "They bowled and played well. But we knew that if we bowl well in the first Powerplay, we can do it. Shahid was very good. The wicket was slow and the ball was not coming on very well. I think 180 is enough against Canada. Afridi has taken wickets whenever we needed him to do it. He is doing fantastically at the moment."
Please hang on for quotes from the post-match ceremony
Bagai: "Very very disappointing loss for us. We did a great job after losing one of our better bowlers. Our batting worries continue. We disappointed themselves. Fighting is one thing but taking it over the line is another level. We fell short. Just not this one, our batting has been a worry in the last few weeks. We might get a new faces in for the other games. It was great to get some support from the crowd."
Afridi: "Batting first was a good decision but the shot selections weren't good. It;s a good wake-up call for us. Coach Waqar Younis and I will speak to the team. It wasn't good shot selection. We won't repeat this kind of performance again. These are perfect conditions for bowling, for spin and fast bowlers. Asked about his bowling, he simply says "Alhamdullilah"
That's it from us. Shab Bakhair. Good bye and good luck.
from round the stumps, full and outside off, big swing and a miss from the batsman
Jay: "Was NOT Blewett if you're thinking of Test matches, Afridi cleaned up Steve Waugh with a scud missile on his Test debut (not sure about debut, but it was in a Test)" So, perhaps, he took both of them with those missiles.
well outside off, left alone
wide outside off stump and an unhappy Kamran screams, "C'mon!"
full again, angled across the batsman who slices it to third man
full and just outside off, the ball goes past the waft and Akmal collects
Batting Powerplay taken
Haider helps me get closure: "The quick ball from Afridi was bowled to Greg Blewett. This is where you may refresh your old memories:-)."
slower one outside off, cut away for a single
the slower one down the leg side and Akmal gathers
good-length delivery around off, defended on the front foot
Balaji is run out Afridi is having some night here. Balaji had set off for a single but his partner wasn't keen. Balaji turned and saw that Afridi had the ball at mid-off. He gave up and just watched Afridi let rip a direct hit at the non striker's end
pushes this one away for a single
full delivery around off, driven for a single
full length delivery on the off, edges the intended off drive to his pad
What a cracking spell this has been from the Pakistan captain.
slower, flighted, plays it uppishly but short of long-off
presses back to work this to the off
stays back to cut this to backward point
around the leg stump line, turns in, he misses the sweep and is hit on the pad
bounces from short of length around off, jabbed to the off
gets back to defend to the on side
The umpires had a long chat with Shehzad that time
the slower one and Balaji doesn't connect
