9.50 pm From 53 for 6, there was some chat about Scotland and their Associate brethren not belonging in the World Cup. What a difference two hours makes. Chris Greaves with the night of his life on a cricket field. Top-scoring in the first innings forging a half-century stand with Mark Watt for the seventh wicket to rally Scotland back into the match with the bat before taking the monster scalps of Shakib and Mushfiqur in the chase. Wheal seals the deal in the 19th over with two wickets. What a night for the Saltires!

Kyle Coetzer, the winning captain: "To get into that position, we have to give credit to the Bangladesh bowlers, they showed high-class skills and blew us away, to be honest. We've got a huge belief in our squad, and any player coming in has the ability to hit the ball over the ropes, as Chris Greaves and Josh Davey at the end showed. It just shows we can win a game from anywhere. I said at the halfway point that we can show we can win a game from that position. Everyone just put their hand up and contributed when it was required. It's a huge confidence-builder. We believe even more now that we can keep on pushing and challenging teams."

Mahmudullah, the Bangladesh captain: "The wicket was quite good, 140 was gettable. We were missing that one big over in the middle. Bowlers did their job really well but the batting unit wasn't good enough. Credit goes to their batters (for coming back from 53 for 6), they had a good finish. We still need to be positive and figure out where we made mistakes, and not try to repeat them."

Player of the Match Chris Greaves: "We were in a tough situation obviously and it doesn't always go that way. It was just to rebuild the innings at that stage and see where we could go from there. I was happy to be that person. With the score on the board, you've got something to bowl at. I think once we got that total on the board with our bowling lineup, we'll back it. It was a great great game. It was my day I think today. It will be many other days that any one of us in that squad will be a part of. I'm just glad I could contribute in the way I did. Incredible. There's so many words. Just really enjoying it and taking one day at a time. Hopefully many more days like this to come."

Five days after his 31st birthday and in just his second career T20I, Chris Greaves etches his name in Scottish cricket history with a sterling all-round performance. How's that for a cracking start to the T20 World Cup! Well worth the wait. They'll be partying long into the night from Edinburgh to Dundee and all the way up the east coast to Aberdeen! That's it for today's coverage, I'm Peter Della Penna. Come back tomorrow when Group A kicks off from the UAE as Ireland takes on the Netherlands and Namibia plays Sri Lanka. Good night!

Sharif to Mahedi Hasan, 1 run

short ball on middle, pulled to deep midwicket for one. Scotland have won it by six runs!

Long delay here as Coetzer comes to talk to Sharif, who vigorously rubs the ball with a towel to make sure it's very dry to grip.

Calcu: "Where's the guy who said that associates shouldn't play in the world cup when Scotland were 50/6? Let this be a message to all those who have such exclusionary beliefs. Hoping for more upsets!!"

Sharif to Mahedi Hasan, FOUR runs

low full toss on sixth stump at shin height, Mahedi flays this over extra cover for four but they needed to clear the rope on the full. Scotland will win this barring an illegal delivery off the final ball.

Sharif to Mahedi Hasan, SIX runs

full toss at thigh height clubbed high over square leg. Mahedi is desperately pleading for a no ball on height but it was definitely below the waist. Still it shows the nerves by Sharif, who misfires badly on the attempted yorker and pays the price.

Jv: "It's always fascinating to watch underdogs beat the favourites. A great result for Scotland cricket but an eye opener for Bangladesh cricket."

Sharif to Saifuddin, 1 run

yorker follows him backing away from leg, scuffs it out back to the bowler for one.

Sharif to Saifuddin, FOUR runs

full outside off, shovels this over mid-off who was up in the ring. Bangladesh isn't done yet. 19 off 4 needed.

Sharif to Mahedi Hasan, 1 run

yorker on middle and leg, goes to scoop this and miscues it off his helmet before it dribbles away for a run. Given off the bat, or more accurately the glove, before clanging into the helmet. Concusssion check in progress.

24 needed off the last over. Can the tail do it or will Scotland close out a historic upset of Bangladesh? Sharif to bowl the last six.

Frank : "The Wheals have come off for Bangladeash! Come on Scotland!!" Plenty of hands on heads in the Bangladesh dugout at the moment.

Wheal to Mahedi Hasan, 1 run

length ball on middle, punched to extra cover for one.

Wheal to Mahmudullah, OUT

slower ball full on fifth stump, MacLeod is a magnet on the boundary today. Mahmudullah skies this to the Glaswegian at long-on, and this time it's a far more casual take three yards inside the rope. Scotland are closing in on a historic victory to open up the World Cup!

Mahmudullah c MacLeod b Wheal 23 (22b 1x4 1x6 40m) SR: 104.54

Surath: "This game isn't over till Mahmudulla is out there… go captain… do it yourself "

Wheal to Mahmudullah, no run

yorker on middle at 133 kph jammed back to Wheal.

Wheal to Mahmudullah, SIX runs

in the slot on sixth stump, the captain is not going to lie down! Clubs this 10 rows back over the deep midwicket rope.

Wheal to Nurul, OUT

full on fifth stump, heaves this a mile high but not far enough. MacLeod is stationed on the rope at long-on. He takes the catch angling his hips into position so he swivels with the ball coming down over the rope, but his body control is impeccable and flicks it back up to himself after coming back into play. Most people would take that with their back to the rope and struggle to maintain balance but he turned his body sideways to make it a much easier take.

Nurul Hasan c MacLeod b Wheal 2 (3b 0x4 0x6 5m) SR: 66.66

Kaleem : "This would be the result when you make only spin wickets back at home just to gain results as per your wish. Big wake up call for Bangladesh Cricket Booard. " We're getting a lot of people flooding the comments with his sentiment at the moment.

Wheal to Mahmudullah, 1 run

low full toss at knee height on fourth stump, goes to drive and a thin edge goes to ground where Cross stops it behind the stumps on one bounce.

Pendulum swings sharply back to Scotland. Just five runs and a wicket in that over.

Watt to Nurul, 2 runs

no last ball boundary in the over on this occasion. Watt finishes off a top-class over with another ball speared in full on fourth stump and it's guided away into cover for a pair.

Watt to Nurul, no run

full on off, scuffed back to Watt.

Watt to Mahmudullah, 1 run

full on middle, driven to Munsey at long-on for one.

Watt to Afif, OUT

the reluctance to come back for a second on the previous ball makes a difference! Watt darts this in full on middle and leg with Afif shuffling well across his stumps. Afif tries to heave this over midwicket but gets under it too much and skies this to the man on the rope. Too easy for Davey to pouch this five yards in from the rope.

Afif Hossain c Davey b Watt 18 (12b 2x4 0x6 22m) SR: 150
Watt to Mahmudullah, 1 run

full on off, smokes a drive past Watt's hands and Leask does a tremendous job at long-off denying a second run.

Watt to Afif, 1 run

full on fifth stump, Afif shuffles across and drives to long-off.

Watt to bowl his last.

Davey to Mahmudullah, FOUR runs

goes for wide yorker, but Mahmudullah betters it with a reverse scoop to a 134 kph delivery to shovel this over short third man to the rope. Another crucial last ball boundary for Bangladesh gets them 12 off the over to keep pace with the required rate.

100 up for Bangladesh, but the heavily Bangladeshi crowd doesn't bother to acknowledge it. They know they are behind with 19 balls to go.

Davey to Afif, 1 run

short and wide off cutter slapped off the toe into cover.
