Bowled'm!!! All over! Fires it in full, a good yorker does the trick.
Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe, 8th Super at East London, Mar 15 2003 - Match Result
So Sri Lanka will meet Australia in the semi final. This also means, no back-door entry to the semi final for New Zealand, it is bye bye time for the Kiwis. So Sri Lanka win by 74 runs. Surely the turning point was Andy Flower's dismissal in the 29th over. Sri Lanka won the toss this morning, and went on to make 256/5 in their 50 overs. Marvan Atapattu made a polished 103* off 127 balls.
Zimbabwe were quite positive about their run chase, they opened with Wishart and Marillier - two hard hitting batsmen. Marillier made 19, looked good to go for a bigger one, but skied a catch off Gunaratne. Travis Friend was promoted up the order, he made 21. Wishart hung around to make 43. Andy Flower, that wonderful cricketer from Zimbabwe was playing his final international game, and he was done in by the umpire Jerling - given out lbw, completely ignoring the big inside edge. Sad to see a great man leave like that from the international scene. And after that Zimbabwe batting just folded. All they could make was 182 all out in 41.5 overs. There is another Super Six game going on right now - between Australia and Kenya, stay with us for the live coverage of that game.
Sri Lanka v Australia - the big semi final will be played on 18th of March, Tuesday, at Port Elizabeth. Live Coverage of that game will start at 0750 Hrs GMT Thanks for being with us. As we all say Good-Bye to Andy Flower. Cheers!
MoM Marvan Atapattu
angling away from Hondo, has a go at it, beaten
gets off the mark, tucks the ball towards the on side, hares down the pitch for a quick single Number 11 batsman, Douglas Hondo to take strike
beaten outside the off
big and loud appeal for lbw, silly appealing too, ball pitched outside the line of leg
Got'm!!! Good return catch! Flower charges down the track - hits the ball in the air just to the left of Jayasuriya, the Sri Lankan skipper takes a tumbling catch to his left, ninth wicket down.
loud appeal for lbw, not out
Matsikenyeri is the new batsman, Grant Flower will take strike as the batsmen crossed over when Streak got out
Gone! This is game-set-match for Sri Lanka, dances down the track and lofts it towards long-on, Atapattu charges in from the ropes, takes a good catch.
goes for the big sweep, trying to sweep from outside the off, beaten
Zimbabwe needs big runs here.
nicely worked away towards mid-wicket
tucked away behind square
Another bowling change, Jayasuriya looks around, and then decides to give himself a bowl
gets off the mark, driving it straight past the stumps, not enough power in the shot to take it to the ropes.
angling away from the batsman, Streak tried his best to get an edge on it, through to the keepe
defended
this one is angled away, keeps too low, Sangakkara does well to stop it
One more wicket and it will be all over for Zimbabwe. Streak makes his way in to the middle
Bowled'm!!! Plays a careless shot, across the line, makes no contact with the ball, and Ervine hears the rattling sound of stumps being hit.
gets right behind the line and defends
Jayasuriya smells trouble here, immediately calls Vaas - and he is to bowl now, left-arm over the wicket
leans forward and defends
this time goes for the conventional sweep, does not connect as well as the reverse!
Shot! This is a tremendous reverse swipe! Playing against the big turn that Muralitharan gets, it went straight out off the middle of the bat, four!
