it's all over. No third umpire required. Finn comes down the track, gets an inside edge and charges off. Short fine leg fires in the throw to catch Dernbach short
India vs England, 10th Match, Group A at Colombo, Sep 23 2012 - Match Result
India's 90-run win against England is their largest margin of victory in terms of runs in T20Is, beating 39-run win against Sri Lanka
Jade Dernbach and Steven Finn's 20-run partnership is ENG's highest for the 10th wicket in T20Is, breaking the record of 6 between Paul Nixon and Anderson
Just coming in that India have jumped to No. 3 on ICC rankings while England have dropped to No. 2. South Africa are on top. Okay one final whinge about this format before I go. Because these matches are inconsequential, all teams that will be leading their groups - India, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan - will be in the same group of super Eights, and all teams finishing second will be in one group. Anyway, thanks everybody for joining us for the live coverage of this game. We will be with you tomorrow too. I might stay back to listen to KP's analysis. That will be fun. Cheers
Presentation
"Yeah it was poor," says Stuart Broad. "All round really. We were okay with 171, but India bowled really well. We weren't as efficient, but we were happy with 171. We played across the line too much. It was worth looking at playing one fewer spinner because we could afford to lose. I don't agree we can't play spin. Certainly in training. We have been learning. We have had a very bad day, but that doesn't affect the rest of the tournament. we get onto the bus, and play out Super 8s. It doesn't change where we go."
"It was an efficient performance," says MS Dhoni. "People might say we were slow for the first 15, but we were not over-aiming. We had five bowlers, we knew that. It was a difficult decision, but we requested the seniors to rest so that we could pick the best XI. And we opened with Irfan because he is a gutsy player. He may not look pretty, but he responds to the call. Now we have got a problem of plenty with spinners with both of them doing well today. About Rohit, it is important if guys are responding to give them a few extra games. Yes, we have got dififcult decisions to make. Not to forget that the players who missed out today have won a lot of games for India on their own."
Harbhajan Singh is back as MoM He says: "It's been a hard year. Being out of the side. Other boys were doing really well, so it was really difficult for me to make a comeback. For me it was an important game. I hadn;t played international cricket for a full year. Getting a wicket first or second ball gives you a lot of confidence. This award is for my mom and those who have stuck with me. In T20 cricket, it's important to just read the game. I have tried to cut down my run-up a bit. I was running in too fast, and struggling to find my areas. So I was consciously coming in off a short run, and slowly. This India short is everything for me. I don;t know what I would do if not playing for India. I would like to thank the Essex people too."
So that's England's lowest Twenty20 total, India's biggest win and England's biggest loss. Absolutely shambolic performance against spin. I get a feeling they were wary of spin right from the start of the innings, which should explain their desperate eagerness to hit the quicks out of the ground. Not only did they lose wickets to those quicks, they completely imploded against spin. And let it be noted that this was not a square turner. The surface can hardly be blamed
On the other side of the coin, Harbhajan is being welcomed back to the side with huge hugs from Zaheer, Yuvraj and Sehwag among others. Harbhajan is a relieved man with figures of 4-2-12-4. India were not spectacular with the bat, but they did enough, especially towards the end. A lesson for Dhoni here is that fresh faces can sometimes bring some new energy to the side, a case in point being India's eight straight failures in Tests in Australia with the same batting line-up and the same order
slow, slow offbreak, beaten comprehensively
flighted outside off, driven along and down the ground for one
low full toss, driven to long-on for one
Yuvraj to bowl more spin. One slip in place
Chawla comes back with 4-1-13-2
flighted outside off, driven to long-off
"This has to be the worst England T20 performance in years. Whatever has come over the team today?" Mark Kidger, a collective brain face. Panic. Pressure
slider, worked away into the leg side for one
full and straight, Dhoni collects it on a half-volley, goes for the stumping, but the third umpire tells Simon T that Dernbach dragged the back foot back in time
short of a length, punched away to deep cover
flighted legbreak, beaten on the sweep. Somebody tell England, there is playing field in front of square too
pushed to long-on for one
"So now, how do you drop Harbhajan to bring back Ashwin? or for matter Chawla?
Oh yeah! Dinda is getting hammered, so he can be dropped for Ashwin. Problem solved?" Rakesh, what is interesting is, will Dhoni now have the heart to play five bowlers in matches that matter? Anyway, Chawla to bowl out now. Two slips in place
shot. Makes room, gets a length ball, chips it over point
that's effective. Follows him with the short ball, and he gets some glove to lob it over the keeper
backs away and hits a short ball over extra cover. He just swung and hoped for the best, but gets the runs. They have now gone past the lowest total of all time
backs away and pulls again, gets a single to mid-on
backs away and pulls, goes wide of deep midwicket, gets a four
England's lowest total now looks just a formality. They look certain to beat that mark of 88, but the lowest ever looks under threat too - 67, better watch out. Dernbach to face now
Respite? What respite? Dinda bowls short, Broad pulls, and finds deep midwicket to perfection. He could have picked that fielder out had it been a nail in haystack
Dinda comes back. That should provide some repsite
4-2-12-4. That's not half bad for somebody who last bowled for India last August
length ball, on off, turns in slightly, defended
Slip, gully, silly point, backward short leg. Even Fin has a smile on. Good to see he can see the funny side
short of a length, on off, defended back
oh what is happening here? A procession. They are batting as if wearing those glasses you get at 3d movies. No attempt to read spin, although you can't blame Swann when the top order has failed miserably. Dances down the wicket, walks past a doosra, and is stumped by a mile
"So, the deadly ( two and a half ?) duo, Sid, has done the damage." I told you, Anees. I can do no wrong nowadays
length ball, turning in, pushed to midwicket
