Dunkley seals it with a four! Full toss angling down leg, she gets down on a knee and helps it through backward square leg. England 1-0 up, thanks to the nine-wicket win!
IND Women vs ENG Women, 1st T20I at Chester-le-Street, ENG-W v IND-W, Sep 10 2022 - Match Result
ENG Women won by 9 wickets (with 42 balls remaining)
10:30pm Big loss for India to kick off their England tour. However, it is just the start and there's plenty of scope to come right back. The first of those chances will be coming in the second T20I on Tuesday. That's all from us for tonight. Alan's report will be up here soon. See ya for the next game. Ciao, peeps!
Harmanpreet Kaur, India captain: "We were not able to get the runs we were expecting. I just feel we forcefully played because it conditions were not 100% fit to play. I am happy the girls put in the efforts and they played despite there being chances of getting injured. You need to have team-mates that play in whatever conditions. It was not 100% conditions, the ground was too wet and there were chances of getting injured. And one of our fielders got injured and we turned out one bowler short."
Amy Jones, England captain: "It is important to start well and the girls did that. I think I am very quiet in all aspects of life. The girls know that it comes naturally to me and the girls stepped up, which made it easier. Lots of girls chipped in with inputs. Just took in the information and tried to read the game. We kept them to a good score. The pitch was a bit skiddy and we had to play straight. Danni at the start was great, Dunks played confidently as well. It is an unbelievable top three with the form they are in."
Sarah Glenn, player of the match: "I thought we did very well as a unit. It was difficult to grip the bowl and tried to bowl stump to stump. Eccelstone is crucial for our team. Despite being of similar age, I look up to her and take notes. I knew the conditions out there and if we'd play our game, we'd be fine."
10:18pm Annihilation for India in the series opener! And it is mainly down to their fielding in the chase. A target of 133 should have been more challenging that it was made to seem, thanks to the no-ball early on first up that reprieved Dunkley. Then a couple of possible chances and poor fielding meant that England had to break little sweat to romp home. Dunkley eventually ended with 61 no out with Capsey impressing yet again. Earlier, it was Glenn's four-wicket haul - her T20I-best figures - that helped England restrict India after opting to bowl. On a slowish surface, stroke-making was difficult once Mandhana was dismissed and it took a late cameo from Deepti to help them to a defendable score. But it was not to be.
Full and outside off, driven aerially just past extra cover. They hare back for the two even as Shafali fires a direct hit at the bowler'e end. But Capsey has made it in.
Loopy slower one, very full outside off, driven down to long-off.
Full and outside off, hits it to long-off.
Full toss on middle, mistimed it back past the bowler.
Very full outside off, sliced all along the ground through cover-point.
Renuka back for her last over.
Slower through the air, full outside off, hacked to deep midwicket.
Very full outside off, jammed it to cover.
Full and well wide, Dunkley tries to reach but misses.
Full and outside off, reaches out to get it over extra cover to take two.
Fuller and outside off, eased down to long-off.
Juicy full toss outside off to start with, Capsey is too good to miss out. Hits it firmly through covers.
Shafali Verma with the ball now.
Quicker and flatter outside off, passes the outside edge as she looks to cut.
Darts it full on off, hits it to long-on.
Fuller and outside off, pushed towards cover.
Goes wide of the crease and darts it full and outside off, slapped through covers for her second T20I half-century. She's been fortunate early on but has capitalised on it all and how!
Dunkley is just picking her spots now. Charges down to the tossed up ball outside off and smashes it over mid-off to bring up the 50-run partnership in just 26 balls.
Swiped across the line and Renuka misfields at deep backward square leg. Bowled it fuller on middle seeing Dunkley charge down towards off.
17 off this over, 32 off the last two. Only a matter of time for England now. How much are India missing Radha Yadav today?
Flatter and quicker outside off, misses the cut.
