slashed through the covers and that should go to the fence, and also be the end of the game! Punjab have got themselves on to the board!
Kings XI won by 7 wickets (with 14 balls remaining)
That's it from me for tonight, I shall be back for tomorrow's game, when Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens. Have a very good evening!
Presentation
Mascarenhas is the man of the match.
Mascarenhas: Bit on the surface for me to bowl on. Never had such a surface in India before! Absolutely love playing India, crowds are passionate and it is really nice to win in front of them. Hope to get a win at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in our next game.
Adam Gilchrist: Good to get things started, early days in the tournaments. Bowlers did a good job in getting the movement off the air. Mascarenhas did a good job with the ball, got a couple of good deliveries. The pitch was doing a tad too much because of the storm yesterday and it could be risk to continue playing on this kind of pitch.
Sourav Ganguly: Toss was important but this was a good performance from the Punjab bowlers, we needed to be a lot smarter. Disappointed because we have a good bowling attack, need to be better with our batting. Kept Rahul Sharma away for some time because we wanted to try out our seamers under those conditions.
That is an easy win for Punjab in the end, on a difficult batting surface. 115 was never going to be an easy target to defend and despite a wicket off the first ball, the Pune Warriors failed to hold on to their catches and missed an easy run-out chance.
Marsh, in his own words after the match, rode is luck a bit and got an unbeaten 64 while Adam Gilchrist and Piyush Chawla both scored 21.
Dimitri Mascarenhas' five-wicket haul had earlier pushed Pune Warriors back and they failed to recover from the early jolts.
dropped, yet again! Tried to slash Samuels and it got more height than distance, should have been caught at point but he failed to get his hands to that.
spinning away from the bat and dabbed away to the short third-man.
driven away to the mid-wicket for a single.
overthrows and they get five. Defended on the off-side and the fielder swooped down on it and threw it wildly over the stumps at the non-striker's end, the fielders backing it failed to get a hand to it and it goes racing away for overthrows.
short again from Dinda and it is pulled away this time by Chawla, getting him a single.
played away to the off-side but does not get any runs.
another bouncer and Chawla lets that go. Looks expectedly at the umpire for a wide but he is not getting one.
an expected response from Dinda, short ball and Chawla was in two minds, whether or not to pull it. In the end, he pulled out!
short of a good length and Chawla has smashed the bowler back to the long-off fence.
comes down the pitch and drives it on the full for a single to long-on.
on the middle and Marsh needed to quickly come down on it, flick it away to the leg-side for a single.
short one and that is pulled away by Chawla but only to deep square-leg for a run.
pulls his length back and the batsman plays it away to square-leg for a run.
Shot, Six! He pitched it up to Marsh, who smacked it over long-on for a six! Into the stands and that is the first six of the innings.
short ball from Rahul Sharma, Chawla tries to play the pull stroke and that goes high in the air, Mathews ran in from deep square-leg but fails to latch on despite diving full-length.
28 needed from five overs now.
driven away to long-off and the batsmen come back for the second run that takes Marsh to his half-century! Excellent innings under pressure, especially after being out of form.
pitched on middle, and Marsh has flicked it away to the mid-wicket fence for a one-bounce four. The umpire called it a six but later changed it to four.
goes for a hit on the up but can get only up to the long-on, where it goes on a bounce for a single to long-off.
short and pulled away to deep square-leg for a single
Dropped! That should have been caught at long-on by Ashok Dinda and it was Shaun Marsh. Marsh lofted him to long-off and Dinda ran in hard but the ball popped out of the hands!
jags back into Marsh and he defends the ball into the off-side region.
