The experienced pair of Poynter and Dockrell batted through 29 overs to save the match for the Lightning.
With so much time lost in the game the draw was always going to be the favourite result.
The Lightning get 10 points to move them up to 15 points in the Championship table.
The Knights take 8 points from the game so they will still lead the table on 18 points.
The next Interprovincial game is on the 27th May when the Northern Knights play the North West Warriors in a T20 game at Comber.
