this could be the end. Full toss outside off stump, sliced behind point and he comes back for the second. It appears to be a direct hit...but it also appears like Sarfraz might have broken the stumps with glove before the direct hit. It's a matter of three frames. Sarfraz's left glove touches the bails, but they're not off. In the next frame too the bails are on...also in the third frame! Which means the bails coming off in the fourth frame are because of the ball! That's it. Pakistan have finished this.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, 2nd ODI at Abu Dhabi, Oct 16 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
11:21pm And that's it from us today. Thanks for joining. We hope you enjoyed it. See you for the next one.
Sarfraz Ahmed: [responding to Ramiz Raja's question about his temper] The match position becomes this way sometimes and the temper comes out. The boys understand it and I always apologise to them later. (laughs) Our batting collapsed but the way they batted after that on a difficult pitch was brilliant. Can't praise the bowlers enough for defending this 220. Babar is young and he will adjust to Tests. He likes to play his shots so he enjoys success in ODIs. He'll adapt to Tests I'm confident of it. The pitch kept getting slower and slower, so batting wasn't easy and that's why we chose to bat. We're trying to give confidence to the boys, like to Shadab today. If we trust the youngsters, they give us good performances.
Upul Tharanga: Bowlers were really good today. It was a tough wicket. If you hung in there, it got better and better. Thirimanne's wicket was crucial. The seam bowlers bowled especially well, and Akila and Vandersay did well. Disappointed to lose. Vandersay batted well too, but when you're 90 for 7, it's a tough task. It was good to carry the bat, but disappointed with the result
Shadab Khan: I'm grateful to Allah and the good wishes of my parents. Got opportunity with the bat and I thought it'd be my first and last one and approached it like that. The coach told us to bat out the full 50 overs and that's what we did. The kind of bowling line-up we have, we knew we could defend this.
Shadab Khan is the Man of the Match.
10:58pm Oh Sarfraz. Didn't have a very good day, this man. But he was great during the middle overs with his bowling changes, and Pakistan have done it. They've risen from 79 for 5, then 101 for 6, and completed a 32-run win. Upul Tharanga becomes the first Sri Lankan to carry his bat in ODIs. He had the complete opposite day to his counterpart. Can't count how many chances he had today, but unfortunately for him, the pattern holds true for the match result as well. Another loss for him as captain. Only four out of 22 batsmen made it past 20 in this match. And therein lies the value of Babar Azam's century. His fifth consecutive one in the UAE. A superb effort. Backed up by Shadab who got an unbeaten half-century; then followed it up with three wickets to rip through Sri Lanka's middle order. Which one of them will be Man of the Match?
full at off stump, makes room, drives it straight to mid-off
Hasan swiftly walks back to his mark. Trailing him is Sarfraz who cannot believe he has bowled it short and wide with three fielders deep on the leg side
shot. Short and just outside off stump, contorts to make room and slice this over extra cover to find the boundary
overpitched wide outside off, backs away and chops this to third man's left
yorker outside off stump, tapped into the off side
slower ball, short and wide outside off. No pace on it, he can only chip it over mid-off
Hasan Ali, around the wicket
good length at off stump, awkwardly pushed into the off side
slower ball, short and down leg side. Through the pull too early but the top-edge lands in front of Junaid at short fine. His dive isn't good enough
Wajid Jawaid : "I wonder if this will be the lowest match total to include 2 individual centuries" --- Second-lowest at the moment says stats man Bharat Seervi.
back of a length, angled down leg side. He looks to whip it square. Appeal is turned down. But wide not given. Perhaps it was thigh guard. Or it could be bat, but the rule today is Tharanga can't be given out
good length, angled in at leg stump. Pushed wide of midwicket
back of a length at leg stump, defended into the leg side
back of a length at leg stump, flicked through square leg
short one at off stump, a laboured pull, harmless, straight to long-on
back of a length at off stump, drops it into the off side and takes off....once again there's no run. But this earns him an overthrow as he runs back towards the crease
good length outside off, nice flowing square drive, but he finds point with it
oh dear! Tharanga has got his hundred, but Lakmal might well be out attempting a poor second run. Length ball at middle stump, Tharanga tucked it in front of square leg. Lakmal turns after reaching the crease and takes off without waiting for a call. It takes him a long time to turn around and return and his dive is not good enough. He's out. The throw was slightly wide, but there was enough time
back of a length, angled in at the pads. He swivels to pull this, inside edges on to the front pad and responds to the call for a run
Around the wicket to Lakmal
glorious shot, but it's only one. Nice overpitched ball outside off, creamed along the floor to find sweeper
Here is Junaid.
back of a length, angled into the pads. Tucked through midwicket from the crease
Goes around to Lakmal
finds deep square leg! Is that it for Sri Lanka? Bouncer gets too big for Vandersay. He gets well under it as he goes after it with the hook. Can't blame him, the runs hadn't come this over. Finds Shehzad who pedals backwards and holds on well
