Rohit Sharma: "This is the kind of performance we have been talking about and this is the character of Mumbai Indians. The bowlers took the responsibility. With the bat, we could have done a bit more. But full credit to the bowlers. When the pressure rises, we want our seniors to take the responsibility."

Lasith Malinga is the Man of the Match. He says, "It came out nicely today. I got my rhythm. We have a good partnership in fast bowling (with McClenaghan). It was a good batting track, but this wicket was good if someone had variations."

Lendl Simmons gets an award for hitting the most sixes. Naman Ojha wins some cash for his fantastic take behind the stumps.

Mumbai Indians have given themselves some breathing space with this much-needed win. They now have two wins out of seven. This was a fantastic bowling performance, one they had been waiting on for the past few days. David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan were swift at the start but once both were removed, Sunrisers did not have anyone else to take the mantle of scoring. It was one of the weaknesses that had been highlighted - their over-dependence on the top-order.

Steve: "Time to look beyond Malinga, cricinfo? " --- Malinga has answered that question in an emphatic fashion, hasn't he? He was looking a bit jaded in the first few games, and with only four overseas spots, his automatic selection could have been brought up in a debate. Not for a few games now. With Mitch McClenaghan around, Mumbai seems to have found a bowling pair that can lead them ahead in the tournament. The task, though, still remains difficult and the question marks on their batting remain.

mrbean: "I am not so sure it is a fantastic bowling performance. it is more an indication of the quality of the batting..Too much dependent on the openers and middle order is probably the worst among all the teams."

Malinga to Steyn, OUT

it's the third wicket in this over! Another slower one does the job. Steyn swings too early, hits it too high but not long. Pollard runs in from long off and comfortably settles under the skier. Malinga is on a hat-trick

Dale Steyn c Pollard b Malinga 0 (1b 0x4 0x6 1m) SR: 0

Dale Steyn comes in.

W
Malinga to Praveen, OUT

and he gets another one! Praveen charges down the pitch, gets a slower delivery that beats the bat and grazes the top of middle stump. Malinga is running through the side now

Malinga to Vihari, OUT

and another one departs! Vihari has a swing at a Malinga slower delivery and all he can do is edge it to the keeper. There was a faint edge on that one. Malinga turned back to appeal but the umpire had already raised the finger

McClenaghan to Bopara, 1 run

short ball from round the wicket, this one gets big on the batsman but Bopara manages to play a controlled pull behind square for a single

gav: "@D.S.A: Your logic is valid, but at the moment the rule is if your first leave the field of play to stop a ball you don't actually have to return to the field of play before handling the ball again, so long as you aren't grounded outside the field of play, obviously. There was a similar case in the Big Bash last season. Umpires were unfairly criticized"

17.1
McClenaghan to Bopara, no run

fires a low full toss wide outside off and Bopara, in an effort to go too inside out, misses it completely

Pace from both ends. Mitch McClenaghan comes back

Malinga to Vihari, FOUR runs

he picks up a boundary off the last ball as he gets a toe-end to this leg-side yorker and manages to play it perfectly in the gap at short fine leg. That races away

Swami: "D.S.A is right, they changed the rules a couple of years back. Now once you touch the ground outside the field, you've got to come back in to the field (ie, touch the ground inside) before you pick up the ball, otherwise it is a boundary." --- Time to reopen the book.

16.5
