Leicestershire lifted themselves out of the bottom two with an uninspiring 36-run win over Somerset at Grace Road in a Division Two basement battle.
Leicestershire batted first and made heavy weather on a slow pitch. Darren Maddy and HD Ackerman put on 69 for the second wicket, but the middle order was unable to inject any impetus and the innings rather fizzled out.
Somerset's pursuit of a modest target of 174 was scuppered by Nick Walker who removed four of the top six to leave them 58 for 6. And he could have had a fifth, but he was denied by a dropped catch just at the end of his spell. Youngsters Sam Spurway and Gareth Andrew added 59 for the eighth wicket to give them a flicker of hope before Jeremy Snape polished off the tail.
