Sood takes 10 as Delhi thump Gujarat

A round-up of the Ranji Trophy Group B matches played on December 31, 2014

Delhi 425 for 6 dec (Chand 105, Sehwag 105) beat Gujarat 150 (Sood 4-50) and 166 (Sood 6-43, Shivam 4-52) by an innings and 109 runs
Scorecard
Left-arm spinner Varun Sood took his match haul to 10 wickets as Delhi completed an innings-and-109-run win over Gujarat on the fourth day. This was Delhi's third outright win in as many games and their second with a bonus point.
Sood and offspinner Shivam Sharma had reduced Gujarat to 152 for 7 on the third day with a deficit of 123 runs and they could only add 14 runs to their total before being bundled out for 166.
Shivam took two of the three wickets to fall five overs into the final morning, dismissing the overnight pair of Jesal Karia and Pranjal Sutaria within four balls. In the next over, Sood dismissed Kushang Patel, sealing the win for Delhi. Sood and Shivam finished the game with career-best figures. Sood, who had taken a maiden five-for on the third evening, ended with a match tally of 10 for 93. Shivam's 4 for 52 in the second innings took his match figures to 6 for 91.
Odisha 232 for 9 dec (Rout 39, N Behera 39, Yadav 6-91) and 41 for 3 beat Haryana 127 (Mohanty 3-40, Pradhan 3-35, D Behera 3-33) and 143 (Mishra 37, D Behera 4-22, Mohanty 3-67, Pradhan 2-32) by seven wickets
Scorecard
Mohit Sharma took two wickets in the first over of the day but Haryana's paltry target of 39 meant that Odisha had few troubles on their way to a seven-wicket win in Rohtak.
Mohit dismissed opener Girjia Rout for a duck off the first ball of the day and then completed the over with the wicket of Odisha captain Abhilash Mallick. The pair of Govinda Podder and Biplab Samantray took the side to a win in the 14th over.
Punjab 659 for 7 dec (Mandeep 235, Yuvraj 182, Gurkeerat 101) and 15 for 0 drew with Saurashtra 559 (Jackson 181*, Jogiyani 145)
Scorecard
Punjab continued their unbeaten run with a high-scoring draw against Saurashtra in Rajkot. The last day was marked by an unbeaten hundred from Sheldon Jackson, charging Saurashtra to 559 from their 308 for 4 overnight.
Saurashtra were trailing by 351 runs in the morning and lost Kamlesh Makvana in the seventh over of the day. No. 7 Divyaraj Chauhan combined with Jackson to take the team past 450 with a stand of 121 runs. Once Chauhan was bowled for 44, the seventh wicket also fell soon. But Jackson got good company from Vishal Joshi for the eighth wicket for a 61-run stand to close in on 550 runs. Yuvraj Singh then wrapped up the tail with three wickets, including two wickets in two balls to secure a first-innings lead of 100 runs. Jackson was not out on 181, his second consecutive hundred and fifth in first-class matches, that featured 19 fours and four sixes.
Punjab batted for four overs in the second innings to score 15 for 0 and collected three points.
Rajasthan 188 and 236 for 7 (Bist 54, Saxena 52) drew with Vidarbha 296 and 296 for 4 dec
Scorecard
Fifties from Vineet Saxena (52) and Robin Bist (54), and other useful lower-order contributions gave Rajasthan a draw on the last day in Jaipur, despite losing seven wickets, after they were set a target of 405 by Vidarbha. Rajasthan were rocked a few times after crossing 100, but consistent innings of resistance took them to 236 for 7 at the end of the day, giving them one point, and three to Vidarbha.
Rajasthan began the day on 33 for 1 and overnight batsmen Saxena and Bist stretched their partnership to 106 before Ravikumar Thakur had both batsmen caught behind within a span of 10.4 overs. Rakesh Dhurv dented them further with the wicket of Ashok Menaria to reduce the hosts to 159 for 4. Arjit Gupta and Rajesh Bishnoi then steered the innings by taking them past 200. They lost three more wickets towards the end of the day, within seven overs, but Vidarbha ran out of overs to take three more for a win. Thakur finished with 3 for 54 and Dhurv and Swapnil Bandiwar took two wickets each.
