A half-century from Marcus North and valuable contributions from his team-mates delivered first-innings points to Western Australia on the second day in Perth. But by the close of play, South Australia had moved back ahead by 60 runs with an unbeaten 38 from Travis Head, who had been joined by Kelvin Smith on 6, and the score was 3 for 68.

Phillip Hughes failed to capitalise on a start for the second time in the match, caught off the bowling of Ashton Agar for 23. Mitchell Johnson, who appears a likely inclusion in Australia's squad for the first Ashes Test, struck first ball in the innings when he had Sam Raphael lbw, and will be keen to add more wickets to his tally on Friday.

Earlier, Johan Botha collected 4 for 47 and Chadd Sayers picked up 3 for 64 as the Warriors were dismissed for 230, with a lead of eight runs. Marcus North top scored with 50 and set the tone with an 88-run opening stand with Cameron Bancroft (40), before Adam Voges (38), Sam Whiteman (30), Johnson (27) and Mitchell Marsh (20) all chipped in.
