in the slot on leg stump, he got the length he needed to launch it over midwicket but instead he scuffs this flicking it to deep backward square. Fielder could have let it go over the rope for a one-run win but puts in the effort to flick it back and it's relayed in for a single. Faheem makes it interesting but is able to defend 18 (barely) off the final over to clinch a three-run Pakistan win!
Mohammad Rizwan is named Player of the Match. Apologies folks but my Urdu translating skills are a bit rusty! So that's it from us for today. Come back on Saturday for the second match to see if South Africa can level things up in this three-match series. For Alan Gardner, I'm Peter Della Penna. Take care!
Presentation time. Here's South Africa captain Heinrich Klassen: "I'm a little bit disappointed about the result. I think the lack of batting intensity for four overs there in the middle cost us a little bit. It doesn't help if you get a guy that bowls three overs for two wickets and four runs, that doesn't help you chasing 180. The intensity needs to lift there in the middle (overs) and we'll see if we can get it right in the second game."
9.49 pm So Rizwan's brilliance with the bat was matched by his bold instincts in the field with the spectacular runout of Hendricks. Unsung hero today is Usman Qadir. South Africa looked like they were in a strong position early in the chase before his spell of 2 for 21 (was 2 for 4 at one stage) turned things around in the field for the home side.
Umar: "Man of the match should be Harris Rauf's shoulder. Saved 3 runs. Won them the match!"
Six to win now.
premeditates the scoop once again and times it perfectly over short fine leg. Got the length he needed from Faheem pitching it full and wide on fifth stump.
Two boundaries needed in some form.
knee high full toss on fourth stump, could easily have gone for six but he flubs this trying to muscle it straight down the ground and it bounces well short of long-off.
slower ball lands full on the legs, keeps the hands back to chip this with a sand wedge over long-on. Didn't even follow through but he's timed this incredibly well.
pinpoint yorker on middle and leg, toe-jammed out toward long-on.
in the slot on fourth stump, slams a flat drive to long-off.
19 needed off the last over and Faheem takes the ball back after relaying the last delivery in off the rope.
full and wide, drives hard at this toward extra cover, Faheem makes a clumsy and theatrical dive to knock this back in to keep it to two.
yorker lands on off stump at 146 kph, Fortuin tries to jam this out in defense but it comes off the edge (and perhaps may have even shaved off stump as well!) before skittling to the third man rope. Definitely wasn't an intentional shot, not played with an open face by any means.
Yousuf Khan: "The way shaheen recovers every time he is hit for a boundary is simply just amazing. Shows how fast he has matured as a bowler. A bit of a lesson for rauf to learn."
slower bouncer over off stump, Fortuin shuffles across trying to ramp this over the keeper but misses.
James : "Bit harsh to call 17.4 a drop. Haris was in his follow through, and the ball was smashed back at him. I think his shoulder saved 3 runs (and his pearly whites!)." If it comes off the body, that makes it a drop in my book! No mercy!
slower ball lands on a good length outside off, way out in front of a leg side heave.
full and wide, Fortuin drives hard at this aiming for mid-on, thick edge flies over short third man and races downhill to the rope.
wide yorker on fifth stump, Fortuin tries to jam this out but misses.
Shaheen continues around the wicket.
Fortuin stumbled while turning to come back for the second. His left leg got stuck in the pitch with his spikes and looked like he twisted the ankle. He hobbled to complete the second run but he's struggling and the physio comes out. Shaheen's throw wasn't the best. An accurate relay to the bowler's end and Haris would've taken the bails off with Fortuin well short.
back of a length on the stumps, pulls this flat to wide long-on, Shaheen stumbles fielding this and it allows a second.
YankeeGunner: "That dive and run out from Rizwan reminded me of the 1992 world cup game between these two sides when Jonty Rhodes ran out Inzamam-Ul-Haq with a similar dive and breaking the stumps"
Fritz Schoeman: "That Hendricks run out is is a great metaphor for South African cricket currently..."
cutter on the legs lands full at 132 kph, flicks this very wristily but doesn't free the arms to get power behind this trying to launch it over deep midwicket. Haider is stationed perfectly on the rope at cow corner to take this at head height a yard in.
dropped! Full on off, slams a drive back to the bowler. Haris is slow reacting to this chance at neck height. Doesn't look like he ever saw the ball coming back to him as it pings him straight in the left shoulder before a carom toward mid-off. If the ball goes a few inches to the left, Haris may have been taking a trip to the dentist because his head was ducking forward in his follow-through.
overpitched on fourth stump, elegant lofted drive by Pretorius off his first ball to clear extra cover and long-off can't cut it off.
chaos and the indecision from Hendricks leads to running himself out courtesy of a brilliant scoop and dive into the stumps from Rizwan! What a match he's having! Slower ball lands on a good length, tries to pull to the leg side and inside edges this in between his pads. Hendricks wants to run, but Phehlukwayo isn't exactly dedicated to responding seeing Rizwan charging forward. Yes no yes no. Hendricks is the only one who leaves his crease in the end but by the time he realizes his partner is staying put, Rizwan has collected and propelled himself Superman style into the sticks before Hendricks can dive back in. Brilliant from Rizwan, brainfade from Hendricks.
Aftab Wazeer: "What an amazing spell from Usman Qadir, after watching him closely today, anyone can say, if Pakistan give him regular chances and do some work on him, he can become a new Rashid Khan and replace shadab at any stage "
back of a length on off, slaps this back down the pitch to get off strike.
Simran : "That drop in 19th over will cost SA match . Still Pakistan ahead here". Their fielding was good majority of the innings but they let themselves down at the end for sure.
Lokman: "Why are we forgetting the great Tiger Woods?.." Beautiful in its unique simplicity.
slower ball lands on a good length outside off, Hendricks stays in his crease this time and is foxed by the lack of pace.
premeditates another ramp over fine leg, this time Shaheen can't pitch this and Hendricks seizes on a shin height full toss to flick it between the keeper and fine leg.
