68.2 to J Hull, banged in, spliced to square leg! The plan comes together for SL and Hull's maiden Test innings is as short as he is tall. Asitha is a fast bowler right at the opposite end of the height spectrum, and he probably only got this up around Hull's hip - but he wasn't in control as he paddled leg side and picked out the fielder for a simple catch. 318/9
13 | 1 | 46 | 2 | 3.53 | 53 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 0 | |
59.6 to JL Smith, full on the pads, Smith flicks straight to midwicket! SL pick up their second of the day, and Vishwa is on the board. Batter error but induced by the searching lines that Vishwa has been bowling. Clipped firmly but too close to Kusal, who holds on with both hands above his left shoulder. 290/5 65.1 to OJ Pope, dug in short, hooked high... and now Pope joins the procession! Vishwa bags another, England lose their ninth of the innings, fifth of the day, and fourth in six overs. Pope connected pretty well but dropped to his haunches as he realised it was going straight to deep square leg. Like lemmings over a cliff edge. 307/8
16 | 1 | 97 | 2 | 6.06 | 56 | 9 | 4 | 0 | 0 | |
9.2 to DW Lawrence, And Lawrence falls again looking to go leg side! Against the run of play but Sri Lanka will take it. This was short outside off. Lawrence looks to go across and jab this into the onside. Ends up top edging it straight up for gully to settle under. 45/1 38.3 to JE Root, Root's pick-up... flies straight to fine leg! He has looked far from fluent, compared to his twin-ton form from Lord's, and walks off for 13 from 48. He knew as soon as he hit this, swishing across the line, top-edged in the air - and safely held down in front of the rope, despite a stumble from Vishwa. Kumar (and Alastair) are safe for today. 191/3
13.1 | 3 | 56 | 3 | 4.25 | 55 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
25.6 to BM Duckett, Scooped and gone! Duckett looks to take Rathnayake to the same cleaners as Kumara, but the lack of pace likely does him in here. Ends up lapping this fuller one from outside off, straight into the waiting hands of Chandimal. 140/2 52.4 to HC Brook, Kamindu clings on at short cover! Brook has looked frenetic this morning, and can't resist a big flash at an outswinger, looking to go over the off side. But it's not out of the middle, and Kamindu flings himself to his right to take a good catch and break the partnership. 261/4 69.1 to Shoaib Bashir, make that 6 for 37, as Bashir flubs to mid-off! Rathnayake wraps things up with his first ball back and the England collapse is complete. So terminal was their tailspin, that Sri Lanka's openers will have to buckle up and face an over before lunch!. 325/10

62.2 to CR Woakes, advances and chips to short cover! Woakes throws his head back in frustration... and Dhananjaya's part-time offies have chiselled out another for SL, with this turning into a decent session. Struck cleanly but straight at Rathnayake, who clings on in front of his mush. 299/6 64.5 to AAP Atkinson, slogged leg side, Atkinson goes now! He made a century at Lord's but departs cheaply on his home ground. Dhananjaya picks up a second, Rathnayake again the catcher as he rushes in off the midwicket fence. England lose their fourth of the morning session. 307/7 |

10.5 to BKG Mendis, swallowed at second slip! Not Woakes' finest spell with the new ball but he strikes in his sixth over. Good length, in the channel, just a tiny hint of movement away off the seam but enough to take the shoulder of Mendis' bat. Flies to Brook, who clings onto the chance. 70/2 50.1 to PHKD Mendis, And now Sri Lanka lose Kamindu as well! This was excellently done by Woakes, pitching on off and nipping across. Kamindu looks to play in line with off, but it's not enough to prevent the edge, which is gobbled up by Root in the slips. 233/7

15.3 to P Nissanka, full, driven - and snapped up by the diving Woakes at cover! Hull has a maiden Test wicket, though a big assist goes to the fielder. Nissanka has played a swashbuckling innings but falls on his own sword, crashing a drive but failing to keep it down. Woakes moved swiftly to his right and then threw himself full length to scoop up the catch. 91/4 47.5 to DM de Silva, Hull gets the breakthrough! Short but outside off, DDS attempts the pull but this one from Hull is quick and rushes him. Top edge goes high as Bashir judges it very well down at deep backward square to hold on. 220/6 51.4 to MVT Fernando, Hull's got another! Sri Lanka review but this looked pretty adjacent. It was full and swinging in late. Rapped Vishwa on the front pad, and replays show that it was going to crash into the top of leg.. 238/8
9 | 3 | 35 | 3 | 3.88 | 41 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
14.4 to AD Mathews, snaffled in the gully, Stone pumps his fist in celebration! 85mph/134kph, brave enough to get fullish outside off stump, and it flies away to Pope who is standing pretty wide at third slip and takes a sharp catch. Mathews goes cheaply, and England have a third. 86/3 16.2 to LD Chandimal, 89mph/143kph, full and nipping back, given out lbw - but Chandimal reviews immediately. Was there an inside edge? No, says UltraEdge, which I think means this is going to be... salmon and trout! Chris Gaffaney raises his finger again and Chandi has to waddle off for a duck. Looks like his bat flicked his front pad, which is maybe what prompted the review. Stone has another, jagging past the attempted drive to hit the back leg. Would have flattened leg stump, according to ball-tracking. 93/5 56.5 to RMMP Rathnayake, nicked off! 85mph/136kph, Milan has a loose swipe at it outside his off stump and can only feather through to Smith. A fraction fuller, enough width to free his arms but slightly late on the shot. 248/9

61.2 to AM Fernando, reverse-sweeps... straight to Smith! Asitha reviews... did this hit the bat, glove, or forearm? Gets him on the sweatband/wriststrap of the glove before hitting his back arm, and loops up to the keeper. Sri Lanka are bowled out for 263. 263/10

2.6 to BM Duckett, flubbed to mid-on! What a soft dismissal... Fullish and straight, Duckett frees his arms looking to swing down the ground for four, but mistimes it badly and the ball loops up to Vishwa at mid-on. Sri Lanka strike early. 20/1 33.6 to Shoaib Bashir, This time he gloves it! And that's that, Sri Lanka need 219 to win! Another short one down leg, but this time there's some glove through to the keeper. England are bowled out for 156. 156/10
7 | 0 | 43 | 1 | 6.14 | 25 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
23.4 to AAP Atkinson, smashed on the pads, up goes the finger! And Atkinson opts against the review! Pitches this one up with a scrambled seam, tight line, hit above the knee roll on the back pad in front of middle stump as he looked to work it through mid-on, and Gus has got to go!. 82/7
7 | 1 | 21 | 4 | 3.00 | 32 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
7.4 to OJ Pope, chops on, and Kumara is absolutely pumped! Pope smacks his bat against his knee in frustration. Angling in on a length, shapes to steer it away behind square on the off side but it sneaks back off the seam to take the inside edge, and deflects onto the stumps. Double fist-pump from Kumara, who then roars in celebration as he wheels away towards cover. 35/2 11.1 to DW Lawrence, And just like that Lawrence is gone! Looks to shuffle down, make room and clobber this straight back over Kumara. But he's not quite got to the length, and the movement away does the trick. Edged through to the keeper as Sri Lanka get their third. Kumara also is pumped, as he gives Lawrence a bit of a send-off. 56/3 17.4 to CR Woakes, Edged and Sri Lanka have another! He had a poke outside off earlier in the over, and does so again. This time though Kumara finds the edge, and Chandimal holds on well low to his right. 70/6 32.2 to OP Stone, But this time he edges! Looked to go for that same punch through the covers, but this time the length was a little shorter and bounce a touch steeper. Stone ends up getting a thick nick through to Madushka. 145/9
8 | 1 | 40 | 3 | 5.00 | 31 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
14.3 to JE Root, But he might not be able to add any more to that, as Vishwa has trapped Root in front! Brook convinces Root to review, but this looked close. It was a toe-crusher that swung in and struck Root right on the boot. No bat involved, and it's clattering into the base of leg stump. Root was halfway to the dressing room once he saw the first replay. 66/4 16.3 to HC Brook, But doesn't get anywhere near this! Vishwa with another searing inswinger. There's a batter's review but on first look it seemed like only bat could save Brook. This was a good length, pitching on leg and straightening. Brook goes for the drive and misses on the inside edge. Replays confirm that this is crashing into leg. England have lost half their side. 69/5 30.6 to JL Smith, picks out short midwicket! Smith lives and dies by the sword but his 67 might have been enough to save this match for England. Looks to go again, swinging hard into the leg side, but picks out Mendis who holds onto a stinger. 140/8 |

6.6 to FDM Karunaratne, And now he has him! Woakes with the rare bat-pad caught and bowled! Shows great athleticism as well, as he dives forward on his follow through to grab the dying ball. Dimuth, who hand looked to push at this fuller one around off, was beaten by some movement inwards and got a thick inside edge into his front pad. It bobbled up and Woakes did the rest. 39/1
