what a way to finish the match! Perera has skied an even bigger six over long-on! It really was a huge six, that's sailed about 20 rows back. Sri Lanka have won, and easily
Australia vs Sri Lanka, Only T20I at Perth, Oct 31 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's a comprehensive victory for Sri Lanka, they really did outplay Australia for the whole match. Early wickets had the Australians on the ropes and Randiv and Perera in particular ensured the target wasn't too high; then Sangakkara and Dilshan guided the chase.
"We got outplayed tonight," Michael Clarke said. "No excuses. They played really well, they played the cross bat shots well on a bouncy wicket."
Man of the match is Suraj Randiv for his three wickets: "Normally I get some bounce ... I got more here than in Sri Lanka."
So, Australia's massive summer of cricket has started on a negative note for the home team. They fielded a slightly weakened side, with Michael Hussey and Mitchell Johnson rested. But this won't do their confidence any good heading in to the three ODIs against Sri Lanka and then, of course, the Ashes. They've now lost their past four Twenty20s, and they haven't won an international in any format since the Lord's Test against Pakistan in July.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have been here in Australia warming up for more than a week and it's done them no harm. They will be a handful for the hosts in the one-day series, which starts at the MCG on Wednesday.
That's it for tonight - thanks for joining us. Well played, Sri Lanka!
he goes for it again, this time doesn't time the ball but gets enough on it that it sails over mid on and bounces away to the boundary
massive! That's easily the biggest six of the match, Perera has launched that one over long-on, just got to the pitch of the ball and then used all his muscle
again he drops it at his feet, remarkably that's a maiden over from McKay
nudged away defensively to the off side
shorter length, and that's a bit comical as it bounces ever so slowly off the wicket and Sangakkara waits and waits, then leaves it alone. It was 100kph.
bouncer, Sangakkara ducks underneath it
shorter and slower ball at 118kph, Sangakkara waits on it and bunts it at his feet
cut away to gully, can't beat the field
again he advanced and this time checks his shot, just nudges it away
magnificent. Sangakkara walks down the crease and lifts it from outside off wide of long-on, it's one bounce over the boundary. That's a really superbly-executed shot.
Sangakkara leans forward and pushes back wide of the bowler, who is athletic enough to dive to his left and cut it off
tossed up wide of off, it's been skied over point and lands safely
Dilshan has batted very well tonight; that was a bit of a waste, though.
Smith gets a wicket, Dilshan has rather thrown it away there. He's danced down the pitch and tried to slog it over midwicket, his eyes already heading in the direction of his intended shot, but it's turned past him and Haddin whips off the bails
Sangakkara advances down the pitch and Smith pulls his length back, the batsman is good enough to get it away through midwicket
Smith comes back on now
So, six overs to go, but how many will Sri Lanka need to get the runs? They could very well do it in the next couple of overs.
beaten outside off with a ball that bounced a little more than expected
pushed to mid on for an easy single
driven to mid off
more runs, and what a lovely stroke from Sangakkara. It was short, the batsman pulled that from in front of his eyes and it's been smoked away through midwicket
short of a length, Sangakkara drops it at his feet and can't get a single
