The four-day Supersport Series match between Griqualand West and Boland in Kimberley was abandoned on the fourth day after heavy overnight showers on Sunday night.

Boland were on the verge of victory, requiring a further 82-runs to win with ten second innings wickets intact.

Set to resume the day at 31 without loss, having dismissed the home side for 137 and 205, the players were greeted with a flooded outfield on arrival at the De Beers Oval.

The umpires inspected the ground and deemed that play would be impossible.

Boland held the advantage throughout the match, having scored 230 in their first innings for a lead of 93. Left-arm seamer Neil Carter then ripped through the Griquas batting in the second innings with career-best figures of six for 63.

His efforts left the visitors needing just 113-runs to win the match with nearly four sessions remaining. But the weather, which has plagued the third Test between South Africa and New Zealand in Johannesburg, 400 kilometres away, had the final say.

Griquas have been eliminated from the competition and will not advance to the Super Eight phase.
