Northamptonshire continued their impressive unbeaten run, successfully defending 163 to beat Gloucestershire by ten runs at Bristol. Northamptonshire got off to a flier with Ian Harvey, playing against one of his many former teams, bashing 48 from 38, along with a quick 28 from Rob White. There followed a fightback from Gloucestershire, but Riki Wessels hit three fours and two sixes in a bruising 37 to loft his side to 162. Gloucestershire also got off to a flier - Hamish Marshall's 42 lasted a mere 22 balls - and they were well set at 119 for 2, but lost a flurry of late wickets to David Willey (2 for 15) and Johan van der Wath (2 for 45), leaving too much onus on their lower-order.
Worcestershire closed the gap at the top of their table with a tight eight-run win over Somerset at New Road, thanks to a tidy spell of 3 for 21 from Gareth Batty. Set 166, Somerset began well thanks to a typically powerful 52 from Marcus Trescothick, while Peter Trego spent just 31 balls constructing 58. But Worcestershire fought back impressively, causing Somerset to collapse dramatically from 116 for 2 to 157 all out, leaving Trego forlornly unbeaten. Worcestershire's 165 for 6 was constructed by Steve Davies' 33 from 22 balls and Ben Smith's 22-ball 35. Ashley Noffke iced their cake with 23 from 10, and Worcestershire are now placed third in the table.

Sussex went top of their division as they comprehensively beat previous leaders Essex by eight wickets at Chelmsford. Murray Goodwin hit an unbeaten 64 to guide them to victory, an innings that included consecutive sixes of Danish Kaneria. Essex, who were missing four players on ICC World Twenty20 duty, struggled with the bat once the opening stand between Alastair Cook and Mark Pettini had been broken. Cook dragged Chad Keegan into his stumps and the Sussex spinners did an excellent job in drying up the run rate.
