it's a play and a miss and it gives Nepal a wonderful win against arch-rivals Afghanistan - their first against the opposition in T20s
Nepal vs Afghanistan, 9th Match, First Round Group A at Chattogram, Mar 20 2014 - Match Result
That's all from the match-center here. Time to move on to the next match. All eyes on Bangladesh now. An indicative target for them is something like this --
If Bangladesh bat first and score 140, they have to make sure that HK don't get the runs in 12 overs or less…. If HK bat first and get 140, Bangladesh should make sure they get 102 runs…
"Yes, we enjoyed the tournament," says Nabi. "It was a big event. We didn't start well and we didn't end well and we are upset with that."
"Afghanistan is a very good team and we are slowly getting there," says Khadka. "A lot of positives we can take from this tournament. We need to push harder and the results will come in the future."
Afghanistan, thought to be second to Bangladesh in the group, have been pipped by Nepal, who played wonderfully well to knock out the opponents. Khakurel scored his first fifty to lift a wobbling innings and help Nepal post a competitive total on the board, then their bowlers bowled with discipline. However, the most notable bit was the fielding today..
Jitendra Mukhiya is the Man of the Match. He says, "It was my responsibility as an opening bowler to provide a good start. Thanks to the crowd who supported us throughout."
Tim: "Well done both sides. Thoroughly enjoyable game to watch. Hope to see more of these sides in internationals in the future. "
Makran: "Afghanistan and Nepal have some brilliant bowlers... could enter most of the current bowling lineups.... Dawlat Zadran (pacy) and Mukhiya (york-at-will) .... definitely the most exciting prospects"
Malla, at long on, corrects his last two mistakes and finally takes a catch. It's a simple chance for the fielder as Stanikzai lofts the full toss straight down the ground. That shot lacked punch. That's also the end of line for Afghanistan
this one is brilliantly hit in the same gap at wide long on! The batsman waits on the back foot and pulls it right in the gap this time.. No chance for that fielder from long on to cut this off
Another boundary and this stays interesting..
swings it across the line and gets an inside edge to midwicket and they come back for the second
Stanikzai goes down with some cramps and he is being given some attention from the physio
this is stupid from the fielder! He gets a redemption chance as the batsman repeats the shot - it's almost an action replay. All the fielder has to do is watch the bounce and exactly like the previous delivery, he is not able to keep it in
length delivery on the legs, the batsman heaves it to wide long on where the fielder lets it go through his hands. That should have been stopped
What an over that was from Mukhiya, almost closes out the game
another low full toss, the batsman doesn't get hold of it; he punches it to wide long on for a couple
Sughosh: "can we get Mukhiya to teach Indian bowlers on how 2 bowl yorkers?"
fuller delivery again, the batsman can only dig it out to long off
another wonderful catch! What a transformation in Nepalese fielding from two days ago! It looked like there was some confusion between two fielder converging under the skier, but Khadka manages to get there and takes it with a forward drive at mid on. It was a high full toss, probably the only full toss in the last two overs, but the batsman top edged it big time
oh what a yorker this is! Just a single to extra cover. Not many bowlers in international cricket can do this, but Mukhiya is bowling these at will
Stanikzai calls in for fresh gloves..
a low full toss outside off, the batsman looks to punch it down the ground but gets an inside edge to the leg side
another good yorker! he can only dig it out towards deep midwicket. Excellent bowling
30 from last two overs. Someone needs to explode. Now. But Mukhiya was brilliant in the last over.
pritish: "mukhiya does a malinga and how!!"
another yorker on the pads, another inside edge to fine leg. Nepal have smartly plugged that gap
he moves well away to the leg and swats it straight into the non-striker. Nepal wouldn't mind that
he looks to smack it to the leg side but gets another inside edge. There is a man at fine leg for these odd shots
length delivery, that is swatted away towards deep square leg and looked set to reach the boundary but Bhandari runs in from deep midwicket to put a dive and prevent the boundary. Excellent work there
a good yorker from round the stumps, the batsman punches it straight down the ground and comes back for a second by the time the long off fielder gets to it
that is a boundary but it's not a shot that Afghanistan would be comfortable about - an inside edge past the stumps
42 runs in three overs...Here is Kami
lovely yorker! This one misses everything. The batsman heaved at it but it slipped under the bat and somehow missed the off stump too
another good yorker, not much you can do about those. The batsman digs it out to mid on
