• It was the 1628th ODI in cricket history.

  • It was New Zealand's 352nd and Zimbabwe's 159th ODI match.

  • It was the 20th match between these two sides. The record now reads: New Zealand 14, Zimbabwe 4, tied one and abandoned one.

  • Umpire Russell Tiffin was officiating in his 29th match, while it was first match for umpire C Coventry. He became 10th Zimbabwean to officiate in a ODI.

  • Travis Friend (born on 07-01-1981, a right hand batsman and a right arm medium bowler) along with Doug Marillier (who was born on 24-04-1978, also a right hand batsman, right arm medium bowler and also a wicketkeeper) became 59th and 60th Zimbabwean to play in ODIs.

  • At 19 years 267 days, Friend became fifth youngest player to appear for Zimbabwe in ODIs after M Nkala (17 yrs 189 days), Henry Olonga (19 yrs 110 days), Alistair Campbell (19 yrs 159 days) and Heath Streak (19 yrs 239 days).

  • Heath Streak playing his 100th match became the fifth Zimbabwean after Andy Flower (147), Alistair Campbell (136), Grant Flower (134) and Guy Whittall (106) and 107th player overall to do so.

  • Zimbabwe's total (273 for 5) is its highest against New Zealand in all matches. This obliterates the previous highest of 271 for six in 50 overs at Harare on 08-11-1992.

  • Alistair Campbell's innings (96) is the highest for Zimbabwe against New Zealand in Zimbabwe. The previous highest was Mark Dekker's 79 at Bulawayo on 31-10-1992.

  • Alistair Campbell was dismissed for the second time in nineties. The other such occasion was when he made 97 against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 25-03-1999.

  • Daryl Tuffey by conceding 48 runs in six overs achieved the dubious distinction of having the most expensive figures by a bowler in a six over spell against Zimbabwe by any bowler. Kenya's Maurice Odumbe had also conceded 48 runs (taking two wickets) at Nairobi Gymkhana on 18-10-1997. Incidentally the worst figures by a New Zealander in a six over spell are on the name of Martin Crowe (6-0-51-0) against England at The Oval on 09-06-1983.

  • Heath Streak won Man of the Match award for the third time in his career.
