And which player has gone the longest without being run out?

This week in our stats series Did You Know? where we present well known and lesser-known facts on a theme, we look at records and trivia related to run-outs.
104 The number of times Steve Waugh was involved in run-outs in his international career - 27 times in Tests and 77 times in ODIs - the most among all batsmen. Of those 104 instances, Waugh was run out 31 times, while his partner was dismissed 73 times. Next on the list is Rahul Dravid, with 101 run-out instances. In Tests alone, Allan Border was involved in the most run-outs - 29 - while in ODIs, the leader is Mohammad Yousuf with 79. In T20Is Mahmudullah tops the list with 20.
73 Number of times Steve Waugh's partners were run out in his international career, which is 17 more than the next highest: Shivnarine Chanderpaul with 56 such instances. Waugh's partners were run out 23 times in Tests and 50 times in ODIs. The rest of the top five in this category comprises Sachin Tendulkar, Tillakaratne Dilshan (55 each), and Aravinda de Silva (51).
3.13 Ratio of the number of times Angelo Mathews' partners were run out to the times he himself was run out in international matches, which is the highest among all players who have been involved in 30 or more run-outs in their career. Mathews has been out 16 times compared to 50 such dismissals for his partners. Waugh has the highest such ratio (5.8) in Tests (with a cut-off of 20 run-out instances), having been run out only four times compared to 23 such dismissals for his partners. In ODIs, Mathews leads the way with a 34/8 record (cut-off: 30), while in T20Is Darren Sammy tops with 10/1 record (cut-off: 10).
11.59 The percentage of partnerships in Wasim Akram's international career that ended with a run-out - 74 out of 686 - the highest such rate among 125 batsmen who have been involved in 500 or more partnerships across the three formats. At the other end of this list is Alastair Cook, with just 1.54% of his partnerships ending in run-outs - 13 out of 839.
121 Number of partnerships that Australia's Ken MacKay was involved in; none of them ended in a run-out. It is the most partnerships in a career without a single run-out. Wriddhiman Saha has 107 stands without being involved in a run-out yet and is second on the list. Among other current players, Pakistan's Shan Masood, with 92 partnerships without a run-out, is fourth. Kenya's Alex Obanda leads the list of batsmen who have been involved in the most run-outs without ever getting out themselves in that fashion in all international cricket: he has been involved in eight run-outs, and each time his partner has been dismissed.
12.17 The percentage of partnerships between Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid that ended in run-outs - 19 out of 156 - the highest among the 64 pairs that have shared 100 or more partnerships. Ganguly was run out seven times and Dravid 12. The 19 run-outs between Ganguly-Dravid are also the joint most by a pair in international cricket along, with Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu (in 266 partnerships).
124 Number of partnerships Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill shared between them across the three international formats without a run-out, the most by a pair. Eleven pairs have shared 50-plus partnerships without ever being run out. Guptill features in three of those pairs. Apart from his partnerships with McCullum, his stands with Tom Latham (62 partnerships) and Colin Munro (56) also have never ended in run-outs.
270 Partnerships Kapil Dev was involved in, in his 131-match Test career, without ever being run out, which is a record. He is also the only player to have played over 100 Tests without being run out. In his 270 partnerships, Kapil was involved in only two run-outs. Dean Elgar is second on the list with 259 partnerships in 63 Tests without being run out. Among current batsmen, Jonny Bairstow (257 partnerships in 70 Tests), Dinesh Chandimal (216 in 57), Ajinkya Rahane (211 in 65) and Tom Latham (204 in 52) have shared 200-plus partnerships in Tests but never been run out in their career.
85 Tests played by Alastair Cook before being run out for the first time in his career - the longest for a batsman. The first and only run-out of his Test career came in his 86th Test against India at Eden Gardens in 2012 in his knock of 190. In fact, that was the first run-out dismissal in his first-class career as well. After that, he played another 75 Tests in a row without being run out. The others in the top five to go the longest without a run-out are Nathan Lyon, who was first run out in his 77th Test, Marlon Samuels in his 64th, Tim Southee in his 62nd and Courtney Walsh in his 57th.
64 Tests played by Ajinkya Rahane before he was involved in the first run-out of his Test career. This happened earlier this year in the Wellington Test when Rishabh Pant was run out when batting with Rahane. It was Rahane's 205th partnership of his Test career.
4 The most run-outs a player has been involved in an innings across all formats. Two players have this dubious distinction, both in ODIs: Brian Lara against Zimbabwe in Perth in 2001 and Netherlands' Mudassar Bukhari against Ireland at Eden Gardens in the 2011 World Cup. In Lara's case, all the four run-outs he was involved in were of his partners and he remained unbeaten on 83 off 98 balls. In Bukhari's case, he had faced only eight balls in 22 minutes and ran out three of his partners and then was run out himself, all within the last four balls of the 50th over.
