Ajinkya Rahane, on Sunday, joined a select group of Indian batsmen to score two centuries in a single Test, as he steered his side to a mammoth 480-run lead in their second innings against South Africa in the fourth Test being played in Delhi.
Virat Kohli and Rahane combined for a 133-run stand that stretched India's lead to 403 at stumps on day three. Kohli, who began day four on 83, only added five to his overnight score before he was lbw to a ball from Kyle Abbott that crept through at shin height.
Rahane, buoyed with a sizeable lead, switched gears thereafter and looked to attack South Africa in order to gain an added advantage.
He first cut Kyle Abbott to the boundary and then used the pace of a short delivery from Morne Morkel to guide it over the third-man fence for six.He then slow-swept Imran Tahir over deep mid-wicket for his second six; and then used his feet to Dane Piedt to dispatch him for his third maximum.
On day three, Rahane took the cautious approach and played 152 balls for his 52. On Sunday, though he clubbed 48 from just 54 balls to complete his fourth Test century. Kohli, in December 2014 against Australia, was the last Indian to score twin tons in a Test match.
