Somerset players Ian Blackwell and Andy Caddick both played their part in helping England record a five wicket victory over Eastern Province in their World Cup warm up match at Port Elizabeth.
Batting first Eastern Province scored 173 for 9 in their fifty overs, with Andy Caddick taking 2 wickets in his 10 overs. Included in his victims was Somerset's new signing James Bryant who the paceman disposed of after he had made just 9 runs.
Ian Blackwell also had a useful spell with ball to end with 1 wicket for 33 from his six overs.
After a shaky start England were steadied by Paul Collingwood (78) and Alec Stewart who was unbeaten on 55 when Ian Blackwell hit the winning runs with ten overs to spare.
`Blackie' ended on 4 not out, which will no doubt have pleased the Ciderman, who has had a lean spell with the bat recently.
Meanwhile back in Australia, Somerset's Neil Edwards helped to put England Under 19 in strong position in the third Youth Test in Sydney.
In reply to the Aussies 221, England were dismissed for 230, and by close of play in the second innings the hosts had reached 66 for 2, putting them 57 runs ahead with eight wickets remaining.
The young Cornishman from Penzance who opened the innings batted determinedly for his 36 runs. He was at the wicket for 134 minutes and in all he faced 125 balls before he was out in the fortieth over.
With two days of the match still remaining a close finish could well be in prospect for the England youngsters in Sydney.
