Andrew Gaggin has been appointed to the Tasmanian Cricket Association (TCA) Board of Directors, it was announced today.
The appointment was confirmed at the TCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Monday, 25th August 2003, after long-serving Director, David Whitehouse did not seek re-election.
Mr.Gaggin grew up in Hobart attending New Town High School, Elizabeth College and the University of Tasmania.
In 1990 Andrew graduated from the University with a Bachelor of Laws degree. For the last thirteen years he has practised as a barrister and solicitor in Hobart and Devonport. He specialises in public liability, personal injury and commercial litigation.
Between 1982 and 1991 Andrew played TCA Club cricket for the South Hobart and University Clubs, mainly as an opening batsman before moving to Devonport where he continued playing with Devonport in the NWTCA.
During the course of Andrew's involvement with these clubs he has contributed on numerous committees and held various administrative positions. He has been responsible for organisation of events, finances and club policy generally.
Andrew offers to the TCA Board the ability to contribute an experienced and practical legal knowledge combined with a cricketing background, which will enable him to relate to all aspects of cricket administration.
Mr.Whitehouse announced that it was his intention not to seek re-election in August 2003, after completing ten years of service.
TCA Chairman, Mr.Denis Rogers AO stated that this would be a disappointment to the TCA as David Whitehouse's contribution to cricket in Tasmania had been very significant and his advice and opinions were invaluable to the TCA, especially his assistance with the re-negotiation of the lease for Bellerive Oval with the Clarence City Council.
In thanking David for his service Mr. Rogers also welcomed Mr.Gaggin to the Board of Directors.
At the AGM the Members' accepted a proposal for a number of new categories of membership to be introduced including:
- TCA Honorary Member (Playing) - To recognize cricketers who have represented Tasmania and/or Australia with distinction over a significant period.
TCA Honorary Member (Service) - To recognize Tasmanians who have served Tasmania and/or Australia with distinction over a significant period.TCA Member (Playing) - To encourage players who represent, or who have represented Tasmania to become a TCA Member.
