Ankle injury sidelines Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh's rapid promotion to the Australia A side has been short-lived, with the allrounder ruled out of this month's series with an ankle injury. Marsh, 18, was named in both the four-day and one-day sides to take on Sri Lanka A in Queensland.

However, he is now expected to head home to Perth to recover from the problem, which could yet require surgery. While Marsh was not likely to be in the mix for Australia's Test or one-day teams in the immediate future, the games were intended as a chance to give him exposure at a higher level.

"Marsh had scans on the his left ankle yesterday and these will be reviewed by a specialist in Perth to determine the best course of action," Kevin Sims, the Centre of Excellence physio said. Moises Henriques, who has played ODI and Twenty20 cricket for Australia, has replaced Marsh in both squads.

Meanwhile, Brad Haddin is reportedly battling an elbow problem after returning from the World Twenty20 with some soreness. The Age reported that Haddin was in danger of missing at least part of Australia's tour of England, with a decision on his fitness yet to be made.
