The batting incumbents
Joe Burns
Out for 4, falling in identical fashion to the second innings of the Hobart Test, tickling a catch down the leg side.
Usman Khawaja
Scored 106 against South Australia, and will be a certain starter for the Adelaide Test.
Adam Voges
Was concussed by a bouncer to the helmet, and retired hurt on 16. Will take no further part in the Shield game. Also struggling for form, and likely to be axed from the Test side.
David Warner, Steven Smith, Peter Nevill and Callum Ferguson are yet to bat in this Shield round.
The batting hopefuls
Peter Handscomb
Finished the day unbeaten on 110 against New South Wales, and could be a straight swap for Voges in the Test squad.
Matt Renshaw
Scored 108 against South Australia in a typical opener's innings - slow and cautious at first, and more expansive later. Could be discussed if Burns is to be dropped.
Travis Dean
Batted throughout the day against New South Wales to finish on 134. Another opener who may feature in discussions.
Cameron Bancroft
Caught behind for 2. Would be a leading contender for the opening position but for a poor start to the Shield season, with scores of 20, 17, 22, 6 and 2.
Marcus Stoinis
Dropped at slip off Steve O'Keefe on 11, caught in exactly the same spot the very next ball.
Mitchell Marsh
Left out of Western Australia's XI due to a shoulder injury, which will not help his chances of a recall after being dropped for the Hobart Test.
Other hopefuls such as Kurtis Patterson, Travis Head, Nic Maddinson and Jake Lehmann are yet to bat in this Shield round.
The bowling incumbent
Nathan Lyon
The only one of Australia's Test bowlers to be playing in this Shield round. Finished the day with 0 for 88 off 27 overs against Victoria.
The bowling hopefuls
Steve O'Keefe
Picked up the wicket of Stoinis, but no others against Victoria. Finished with 1 for 65 from 25 overs.
Chadd Sayers
Went wicketless against Queensland in Brisbane, where he bowled 25 overs and took 0 for 65.
Jackson Bird
Took 2 for 60 from 18 overs against Western Australia. Dismissed the prolific Michael Klinger for 5.
Ashton Agar
Was left out of Western Australia's XI due to a calf strain.
