Bangladesh v New Zealand
The New Zealanders in Bangladesh, 2004-05
Utpal Shuvro
15-Apr-2005
At Dhaka, November 7, 2004 (day/night). New Zealand won by 83 runs. Toss: New Zealand.
Bangladesh failed to build on their near miss in the previous match, slumping to another
comprehensive defeat. Astle and Sinclair shared a second successive half-century opening
partnership before Cairns, whose 34 took only 16 balls, led a middle-order charge. New Zealand
scored 99 from the last ten overs and 57 from the last five. Bangladesh sent in Mohammad Rafique
first in an attempt to raise their strike-rate, but he did not last long and the innings soon developed
into another damage-limitation exercise. They succeeded in batting for the full 50 overs, thanks
to Nafis Iqbal and Khaled Mashud. Both scored 40, Mashud in just 44 balls, Iqbal in a painstaking
87. But a New Zealand whitewash was never in doubt.
