BANGLADESH v SRI LANKA

At Calcutta, December 31

15-Apr-1992
At Calcutta, December 31. Sri Lanka won by 71 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. Fog delayed the start of the match, which was subsequently reduced to 45 overs a side. Two batting records for Bangladesh could not prevent another easy win for Sri Lanka. The team's total of 178 passed their previous one-day international record of 177, against New Zealand in the Austral-Asia Cup in 1989-90, and Ather Ali Khan's 78 not out, which included three sixes and six fours, was their highest individual score. Their bowlers also started well, restricted Sri Lanka to 87 for three before De Silva and Ranatunga put on 139 for the fourth wicket. De Silva's 89, from 60 balls and containing two sixes and eight fours, was the basis of a total of 249 for four which was too much even for Bangladesh's best.
Man of the Match: Ather Ali Khan.
