Barbados Clubs: Browne hits out
Bernard Babb at Wildey
YMPC 173 and 20-4, BET 300-8 dec.
West Indies players Courtney Browne and paceman Corey Collymore
combined to put BET in range of victory as they dominated Dewars
YMPC with both bat and ball yesterday.
Browne, who scored over 500 runs last season, continued his
outstanding form as he slammed his fourth Divison 1 century on a
day that saw visitors YMPC buckle under pressure from the home
team.
Browne scored an unbeaten 102, reaching the landmark as he swung
a short ball from Anthony Odle backward of square for four runs.
At that stage BET, replying to YMPC's 173, called an immediate
declaration with a lead of 127.
But there was no respite for the YMPC team as paceman Collymore
then took charge, producing a four-wicket burst that rattled the
opposition in the late evening.
Fast and accurate, Collymore picked up four quick wickets for
seven runs as YMPC struggled to 20 for four, still 107 runs in
the red with six wickets standing.
Earlier Floyd Reifer gave the BET innings some momentum with an
aggressive 46 before Browne and veteran Lonnel Hutson kept it
going after tea.
Browne, who played some elegant drives in collecting runs on
both sides of the wicket, moved from 60 to 80 in the space of
two overs but was temporarily checked in the 80s as Hutson took
over the stage.
The veteran took on the YMPC bowlers, lashing three big sixes
and four fours, as he hammered 45 off 22 balls. One of the sixes
was a straight hit off leg-spinner Rollock which cleared the BET
pavilion.
They added a rapid 67 for the eighth wicket before Hutson lofted
an easy catch to Damian Harte off seamer Barry Lowe. Browne
scored his century off 110 balls, striking ten fours and three
sixes.
