KARACHI, March 25: Wasim Akram is all set to get release from
Lancashire to lead Pakistan in May's Independence Cup to be
played in India, sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board
(PCB) said on Tuesday.
Sources, requesting anonymity, said Lancashire Chairman, Bob
Bennett, has sent a message to Majid Khan in which he has
expressed his desire to deliberate further on Wasim Akram.
Bennett's reply was in response to a letter written by Majid
Khan in which he had requested Lancashire to release Wasim Akram
for a two-week tour of India. "But talks will continue after
March 28 when Majid Khan will return from Kuala Lumpur," sources
said. However, sources said Bob Bennett has indicated in his
letter that he wanted to sort out a couple of things before
allowing Wasim Akram to leave Lancashire. "He (Bob Bennett)
wants to know the exact dates and a word of promise from Majid
that Wasim (Akram) will be back with Lancashire on the said
date," sources said. The travelling expenses was also a point to
be decided, sources added.
Inquiring about the near future, Bob Bennett has asked the
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to release the allrounder by April
30. However, the PCB has expressed its inability to do that.
"The second Test (in Sri Lanka) ends on April 30. But we have
assured Bennett that Wasim Akram will be put on the first
available flight from Colombo to London," sources said.
