Glen Chapple will continue as Lancashire's captain for the 2010 season, after an impressive first year in charge in which he was named the club's Championship Player of the Year after claiming 35 wickets at an average of 25.25, and scoring 390 runs despite missing five matches with a foot injury.
"Glen optimises the values and attributes we look for in all players who represent Lancashire," said the director of cricket, Mike Watkinson. "In his first season as captain, Glen's contribution to the team and individuals was outstanding. Not only is he highly respected by this team-mates and the coaching staff, but his on field performances continue to inspire those around him - making him the natural choice for the captaincy."
Chapple will be embarking on his 19th season with the club in 2010. "It's an honour to be asked to continue as captain of Lancashire for next season," he said. "Captaincy certainly comes with extra responsibilities, but I believe I've shown it's a role I feel confident in performing. I received great support from head coach Peter Moores and my fellow team mates this year, and I look forward to leading the squad onto greater achievements next season."
Lancashire's head coach, Peter Moores, said: "It's great news that Glen has accepted the captaincy for next season. Over the past year we have built a strong relationship and share the same vision for the club, and I look forward to working with Glen next season in his role as captain."
