KARACHI, May 16: Former member of the Selection Committee,
Salahuddin Ahmad, said that the Executive Council has created
more chaos and confusion than ever by announcing a decision
against Aamir Sohail which has never been heard before.
"Aamir Sohail has been directed to appear before the
Disciplinary Committee again and similarly he has also been
fined Rs 50,000. It is not understandable and the PCB needs to
be more straightforward to clear out the mess," Salahuddin
opined.
The former Test allrounder stated that when Aamir Sohail was
initially banned for two years, the PCB had said it was because
he had failed to substantiate the betting and bribery
allegations. "But now they say he has been fined Rs 50,000 for
violating the Code of Conduct by issuing Press statements. As
far as I recall, Aamir Sohail issued only one statement that was
against Javed Burki. Has the star cricketer been fined for
speaking the truth against Burki who is Majid Khan's
brother-in-law," inquired Salahuddin.
Salahuddin added that Aamir Sohail was given a raw deal when he
was banned for 30 days for a confrontation with Majid Khan. "But
what action was taken against the Chief Executive who insulted
the relatives of Aamir Sohail? Would Majid have done the same
had his sister's husband occupied the same seat," Salahuddin
asked. Salahuddin further stated that Majid Khan has personal
grudge against Aamir Sohail whose services to the sport are
meritorious. "Before taking an extreme decision like that,
Majid, if he had been neutral, must have considered for a second
what he was doing to a player who is an integral part of the
Pakistan cricket team."
Salahuddin joined the bandwagon of other critics when he too
demanded the immediate removal of Majid Khan "in the better
interest of the sport. If cricket has to be saved from further
destruction, Majid should be given a relief otherwise the damage
would be beyond any repair."
