Cricketer injured in racist attack
Former West Indies cricketer Franklyn Stephenson was injured in a
racist assault at a Bloemfontein bar last Thursday.
The coloured cricketer, now doing duty for South Africa`s Free
State provincial side, came away with a black eye and bad bruising after an attack by a group of whites targetting him and white
team-mate Chris Craven in the early hours of the morning.
Craven`s teeth suffered extensive chipping, and he required 23
stitches in his face, according to reports.
The brawl began when patrons of Bloemfontein`s Sportsman`s Pub
jibed at the two cricketers.
Dr Ali Bacher, MD of the UCBSA, expressed himself as "distressed"
by the "disgraceful incident".
